I have a problem with the designated home page for my computer.
I had it set to MSNBC for the longest time, but recently it changed (on it’s own) to some other lame web site. I assume this change occurred with an attachment to a program I downloaded, but I can’t figure out which one. Anyway, I’ve changed my homepage on my internet options back to MSNBC, but everytime I restart the computer, my homepage goes back to the same lame web site.
Assuming you have some version of Windows, go into Tools, Internet Options, General, where it says “Home Page”, and type in the URL of what you want your home page to be.
If it still keeps resetting itself after you do this, there’s a nifty spyware-removal program called Spybot that will remove the registry entries (don’t be afraid of this) wherein the Evil Home Page Changer bot is telling your computer to keep changing your home page. It’s free, and it works.
You can download it from either of these two locations.
Sounds like Xupiter. Anyway, regardless of what it is, get either Adaware or Spybot, both free. These are excellent at removing ad/spy/scumware like this.
Sorry, I missed the part where you said you knew about Internet Options. Bring more coffee…
Anyway, Spyware works, I love it. I encountered one of those Evil Home Page Changers myself just the other day, and I ran Spybot and it fixed the home page and everything, I didn’t even have to go into Tools.
Just a quick follow-up . . . I downloaded & ran spy-bot, and everything is OK now. My father-in-law has been trying to fix this problem for over 9 months!! Anyway, thanks to all for the help.
