Is there a way to fix a squeaky floor from underneath? We have hardwood floors and I’m sure not up for pulling the floor to fix a squeak, but I have access from underneath (crawl space). Can I get in there and, I dunno, squish in some glue and jam in a few screws or something?
The main part of our house was built in 1958 and there are a couple of spots that squeak loud enough to wake the kids. I know where they are, but hopping over them every morning is a bother, at the least.
Try smacking a small wooden wedge between the top of the joist and the flooring nearest the squeak.
Squeeeek no more!
These screws are intended to bring the wood floor back into contact with the subfloor and stop the squeaking. As you put them in, the heads snap off, leaving only a very small hole and no visible screw head.
In addition to SqueekNoMore (works nicely), since you have access from beneath, polyurethane wood glue is great. It expands while curing and as such has a tendency to fill gaps.
The first option I would take is to give the area a very very good long spray of WD40 - its seems an unlikely fix but has worked for me in the past!
If that doesn’t do the trick I would opt for tapping in a small wedge in the area of the squeak - Cover the wedge in a basic white PVA wood glue before you tap it into place. You don’t need very much PVA to get a very strong bond.
If the above two suggestions don’t get rid of the squeaks I would carefully cover the underfloor area near the squeak in an expanding adhesive foam.
Two points of caution with this 1) this stuffs sticks to anything and everything plus is really tough to get off even when wet 2) don’t over apply - it expands as it sets and potentially could slightly lift the flooring above it.
Good luck.
Similar to Squeek-no-more, but for those with access from below:

The advantage to this product is that you don’t end up with holes in the finished floor, but it’s pricey if you have lots of squeaks to fix. You can accomplish much the same thing yourself by driving screws at an angle through the joists into the subfloor. This product just makes it easy and eliminates the risk of driving a screw up through the finished floor.
