Home stereo with a blutooth receiver.

Couldn’t decide whether or not to put this here or in IMHO. Move it mods, if you wish.

I no longer wish to be thethered to my Tivoli radio when I want to listen to tunes on my iPad, iPhone, or the rest of the family’s iPods, phones, etc. I think a bluetooth receiver that plugs into my amp will be ideal.

What are the differences between something like this Belkin model that looks like a hockey puck and this Sony one that looks like some sort of actual compenent? Besides eighty five dollars, that is.

The setup will be a stereo amp, two speakers and the bluetooth receiver in the living room. We won’t be doing any home theatre or surround sound stuff as the TV is downstairs. We probably won’t be plugging in any more devices into the amp except maybe a radio tuner if it’s still in the basement.

If there’s no practical difference I’d rather spend the thirty five bucks. If the Sony one is demonstrably better I don’t mind paying more.

This is all kind of new to me. We’ve only recently ditched our CD habit and pretty much only listen to music on our various devices. Does this bluetooth thingy sound like a good idea? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Amazon carries both of them, the Belkin for $35 and the Sony for $65. There’s also a third unit that looks like it does the same job, the Miccus BluBridge mini-jack Rx: Portable, $48. The Amazon reviews are all over the place on all three, though less so for the Miccus (but there are only 26 reviews on it, vs 69 for Belkin and 93 for Sony; less data points = less reliable reviews).
