I’m looking for a FM/AM radio for my small apartment. Ideally I’d like a compact unit with FM/AM radio tuner and additional Bluetooth speaker support so I can add speakers in other rooms. An aux in would be nice but not a deal breaker and it would be nice if it didn’t look like an ugly plastic boombox.
Either this is a rare beast or my Google-Fu sucks because every time I find what looks like what I want it’s missing features or cost WAY more than I want to spend – I’m thinking $200 tops.
I love it. However, it acts as a Bluetooth speaker itself. I can’t connect IT to a speaker. I do have Bluetooth speakers. I connect them to my phone or kindle to listen to a radio app or Prime music app.
I agree with kunilou. You can easily find a sub-$20 BT transmitter that will link any radio headphone output to another speaker.
You also mentioned “speakers” and so I’m guessing that you want to select from more than one remote speaker. That’s a bit trickier if you stick to your price range. It’s sort of a PITA, since you usually have to re-pair to whichever remote speaker you want, even if it’s just turning on that speaker and putting it in the pairing mode. I just move my JBL BT speaker to wherever I need it.
One of my frustrations with Alexa is that my Dot is a little too eager to pair with a BT unit I have in another room. I have to unplug that unit or delete it and re-pair. If I forget to, Alexa responds to me from around the corner and down the hall.
You can actually do all this for under $200. It’s not what I’d call an elegant solution. It might just be easier to put a different radio in each room and tune them all to the same station.
You could set up a wifi network, but that requires setting up a wifi network. At some point you have to ask yourself whether it’s worth the hassle, particularly since you can hardwire two sets of speakers into something like this and use it to amplify your TV and other stuff.
