I have a 2 year old Sony home theater receiver that doesn’t support BlueTooth. I can’t remember the model # off hand, but when I get home I’ll update if necessary. Anyway, I want to turn that receiver into a blue tooth compatible receiver to play music through my JBL surround sound speakers. It has a USB port. Is this even remotely do-able?
That Logitech device linked to, above, turns your audio receiver into a bluetooth receiver to received radio, and stuff from your phone. They also make devices which plug into your received to broadcast bluetooth signals. I am in the process of setting these up now so I can listen on bluetooth enabled headphones. The main problem, currently, is that there is a definite lag of the audio behind the video but there are codecs which may help this. The lag is like watching a out of sync movie where the words don’t match the lips.
Very easy to do, and that device Dag Otto linked to would work fine, as long as you’re trying to stream music from a Bluetooth device so it will play via your current setup. If you’re trying to make your wired speaker setup wireless, that will not work.
If you want to use (and have available) a ‘aux in’ port the above adapter should work, either with a standard ‘headphone plug to headphone plug’ connector or a headphone plug to a Y RCA cable (may also vary depending on what is provided with the adapter). As well as any other open port, such as CD in. However ‘Phono in’ (vinal records) is the only one that is different and that one will not work.
However the OP stated he wishes to use the USB port instead which this device adapter not designed for. Now it may be possible to buy a USB to soundcard adapter which has a ‘aux in’, but I have no idea if his A/V system could recognize and use that and it sounds like much more of a headache going that route.
I think the OP offered up the USB comment because he though it would be relevant.
The trouble with the receiver’s USB port is that it’s function may be limited to reading MP3 or other music format files off of a flash drive and it probably lacks the programmed ability to function with a streaming device.
Since most of the results of a “bluetooth reciever” Google search result in devices which have analog audio outputs I’m guessing that the OP needs to pick one of these.
I would suggest one that has RCA phono outputs as most receivers have multi channels for those. He may also want to explore HDMI and optical connection options if his receiver supports them.
Thanks for all the input. Yes, I plan on keeping my setup wired; I just simply want to stream music from my phone through my home theater speakers/receiver. The first link should work, assuming I have that audio jack. I’ll check that out!
