Of couerse not. For those capable of reading for comprehension, the point is that excerpts taken out of context from any religious work can be misconstrrued and misapplied–even more easily by those who are predisposed to dislike the adherents of the religion to begin with–unless you are claiming that you do, indeed, as a good Christian, hate your wife, kids, and parents?
Sorry. I don’t accept unproven exigesis from people who are both ignortant of and spiteful toward another community’s beliefs. Your “explanation” is in error.
It’s not that hard to verify the credentials of a foreign government minister. The average American may not have heard of this guy, CBP officials should probably be held to higher standards.
But no. The best approach would be to be a respectably stupid white Christian boy from the south.
So what would the scenario be? Minister is flagged by someone who does not know who he is, he’s pulled aside for searching, he states who he is, and eventually someone who is trained to verify his identity does so. That differs from what happened how?
If you are looking for an abortition clinic bomber that’s a good start. If you are looking for an eco-terrorist it’d be a 20-30 yr old, white, anarchist from the northwest.
I don’t believe your interpretation works, for three reasons. First, what is the agreement? If it’s “don’t kill us, we won’t kill you”, they are commanded to fulfil it as long as it is fulfilled towards them. Second, read further along; an idolator who seeks your protection rather than fighting you is to be granted protection and safe passage; again, as long as they don’t fight you, you have to help them. And thirdly, if you are to promise horrible punishment to those you have no agreements with - pray tell, why do these agreements exist at all? If you are commanded to kill someone, this does not seem like the best group to parley with. No, I don’t believe your interpretation works.
I’ve been “detained” at the airport, had my luggage searched and been subject to “wipe” testing. I’m not Muslim, don’t have a Muslim-sounding name and I was traveling to New Jersey. Being singled out may have had something to do with being a male with a beard, traveling alone (I try not to use my Peter Lorre voice when dealing with airport security, as it only increases suspicion).
Surely there must be some form of I.D. that will protect self-important minor U.K. officials from being subject to security measures like ordinary travelers.
I agree that ecoterrorists (at least so far) don’t seem to be intending to kill anyone. However they have committed many arsons, and arson is a very serious crime because of the fact that fire is a very serious and dangerous thing. Anyone who is committing arson is putting a community at risk, even if you’re just burning down abandoned buildings you can easily create a conflagration that can kill others.
This is probably a whoosh… but he’s a minister in terms of Gordon Brown being the Prime Minister. Minister in this case = elected government figure guy.
I think the most immediately relevant question is, did he have a diplomatic or other special passport? I think that ideally an MP should have the airport notified that he’d be arriving and that he would certainly have some papers to signify who he was. If he didn’t have the papers, then this would still be troublesome, but if he did have them, then this is absolutely inexcusable.
