Homicide , Life on the Street

The Halmark Channel is showing this series five nights a week here in the UK and I am hooked on it. What a great show. Believable characters, good story lines and the way plot lines are carried over from one episode to another. I believe that this show has now been axed in the US and I want to know how many more episodes I can look forward to. We have just reached the point where the three dectecives were shot and wounded and the suspected gun-man was shot dead using a police pistol.

That episode sounds like “End Game” in season 3, featuring the amazing Steve Buscemi as Gordon Pratt, the suspect; you’re a little less than halfway through the run. For a really good episode guide, check out http://epguides.com/HomicideLifeontheStreet/ .

Homicide is my all-time favorite TV show, especially the episodes where Pembleton is in top form (He’s gone entirely from Season 7, but there are still some excellent moments). A good friend of mine had a recurring role as a PBA attorney on the show.

I didn’t discover Homicide until after it had been canceled, and they showed it on CourtTV. One of the best cop dramas I’ve ever seen. Enjoy!

great show!

so good, no one watched it so it had low ratings-

i loved it

I agree Pembleton was a great character and gave some powerful performances. My favourite is Munch . I like his cynical , world weary attitude to life. My wife’s favourite is Tim , because he is so "dishy ". Also it is a change to see a series set somewhere different to New York or LA. I first saw Munch when he appeared in an episode of Law and Order . This was the episode when both forces combined to solve a multiple crime commited in both cities. Thanks for link which gives a great deal of information.

Best damn show on television, until around the time that Falsone and Gharty and Ballard were added to the cast. Then it just got awful.

Three Men and Adena remains the single most compelling hour of television I’ve ever seen.

There were two “Homicide”/“Law and Order” crossovers. The first one was better than the second one.

NBC gave the show a fairly long run for a show with bad ratings.

“End Game” marks the time when the show’s cast started to undergo some big changes.

By the time of the final season, there weren’t many left over from the original cast, except for Yaphet Kotto, Kyle Secor, Richard Belzer, and Lyle Clarkson I believe.

The very first season was the best.

Incidentally, John Munch (the character played by Richard Belzer) is the only character ever to appear on five different American TV series.

Rayne Man:

One of the best episodes, really difficult to watch, involve a man who was pushed in front of a subway train. Can’t tell you much more, but look for this one.

Other guest appearances to look out for are Robin Williams (I think he’s a witness or next of kin, can’t remember) and Joe Perry of Aerosmith as an undercover narcotics detective.

Also, best soundtrack work of any network show IMHO.

Great show, I admired the camera work as well as the writing. The frequent use of black & white, unusual camera angles, slow motion, etc. showed a creative effort rarely seen on TV. Especially enjoyed the technique of repeating key lines of dialogue from different takes and angles.

Robin Williams plays the husband of a woman who is on vacation with her family and is murdered for no particular reason.

Williams walks into the squad room and hears Daniel Baldwin’s character joke about how much overtime he is going to make on this particular case because it has garnered so much publicity.

The episode involving the person getting crushed by the subway train featured Vincent D’Onofrio.

Another notable guest stars included Lily Tomlin and David Morse, in a particularly chilling role as Kyle Secor’s older brother.

Anyone know about the availbility of these episodes on video and DVD? I recently read the book that the show was based on, and would really like to watch the show. But I don’t have cable, and haven’t seen much in the way of videos.

foxfiregrrl–
The only current release is the series finale on DVD (probably VHS as well). I believe it is called “Homicide – The Movie.” Amazon is offering to put customers on a notification list when the show is available on video, unfortunately there is no official release date.

This show just HAS to come out on DVD someday. I mean, doesn’t it? NBC could name their price for season by season box sets and they’d sell.

Unfortunately, NBC has never really cared about the money-making potential of the show…

Which ones? Homicide obviously, Law&Order for the crossover episodes, whichever L&O spinoff he’s on now . . . and what else?

I remember the episode with the guy who was pushed in front of a subway. I only saw the second half of it, but it stuck with me. Wow.

I think you’re trying to remember Clark Johnson, who played Meldrick Lewis. Johnson has gone to be an acclaimed director of such TV shows as The West Wing, The Wire, and The Shield.

He also played Munch on an ep of the X Files, “Unusual Suspects”.

Homicide and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit as a regular. The Law and Order flagship, X-Files, and The Beat as a guest star.

Munch also appeared in an episode of the X-Files, I believe, and…dammit, I used to know all 5 shows he was on, but I can’t remember the other ones.
