I was a bit disappointed in the resolution of the shooting. I could believe this man guilty of the initial shooting but I had a hard time buying him pulling off the hospital shooting as well.
OTOH, wasn’t it great to see Howard and Bolander and Crosetti again! And the scene with the M.E.s in Gee’s hospital room was absolute genius.
7/10. But I wouldn’t have missed it for anything.
So what did the rest of the SDMB H:LOTS fan club think?
I think it would have been better as a two-parter. Felt a bit rushed. I agree…the hospital shooting was WAY over the top, and I don’t see how it was needed! (I also heard from a friend who has the original shooting script, that a LOT got cut from the movie. I’ll share once I have more info…)
But to see Bolander, and Kay, and Russert, and Pembleton…it was great. I loved the rooftop scene between Bayliss and Pembleton. PERFECT way to end their relationship. And of course, the question remains…who’s the fourth chair in the end scene? I say Bayliss, personally.
Not perfect, but it was a great movie. And a great way to end the series for good. sigh The only bad thing is that it reminded me of how much I miss the show.

Honestly, I have only seen a part of one episode. I know that is laughable, but I knew about the show and the general facts. Anyways, I started watching the movie Sunday night and was glued to the set. I enjoyed it. I wish I had watched the series though. Sigh.

It was great seeing everyone again. They handled it rather nicely, though there wasn’t enough of Kay Howard (I think that had to do with what went on off the set).
The Pembleton/Bayless scene on the rooftop was terrific. I also loved seeing Adina Watson in the station house at the end.
I was wondering how non-fans would react. I was thinking that the story and characterizations were enough to make people keep watching even if they didn’t understand who the characters were. And I’m sure there were people who were fans of the show who didn’t know everyone (especially Crocetti).
I loved it. Homicide was the best show of the 90s.
“What we have here is failure to communicate.” – Strother Martin, anticipating the Internet.
Melissa Leo has some continuing problems involving her ex, actor John Heard. He beat her up, he stalked her on the various sets of Homicide, they keep dragging one another into court over legal issues, including the custody of their son, etc. It’s a longstanding mess that even now has not been resolved.
That’s why she got fired from Homicide, they got tired of dealing with the problem.
On the movie: just my two cents, but I thought two hours wasn’t enough to give anybody more than a cameo and so it all came off as piecemeal and forced.
Instead of “tying up all the ends,” it only made things even more tangled and confused.
And I HATED the ending. I’m still furious about it. Homicide was one of the few shows on tv I actually watched and this is a sorry end to a great show.
Do you think a two-parter would have been better? In some ways, it wouldn’t have been rushed, but…knowing Fontana, I bet there would still have been a lot of things that the fans would have hated. (Like Kellerman and Lewis not talking at ALL? What was up with that?) As I said above…I’m interested in hearing what scenes got cut, and whether they would have helped the movie.
And random question…did you like the final ep of the series? As a CLOSER, I liked that better than the movie.
The reaction that surprises me the most that I’ve heard so far is people being upset that Bayliss actually killed Ryland. Um…hello, denial? Wasn’t that BLATANTLY shown in the final ep, or am I just nuts?
