Priam: When you find yourself being insulted in this forum, do NOT respond in kind. The proper response is to hit the REPORT THIS POST button (the little exclamation point in the upper right corner of each post). It’s kind of like little kids fighting on the playground – the best response is NOT to hit back, but to let the teacher know what happened. OK?
I think the first sentence is incorrect. Many cases of sexual abuse of children are from people who have sex with other adults. Normal, of course, is hard on that front. The second statement also seems odd, but I’m not sure what you meant by it re: safe if left alone with anyone but a pedophile. Seems wrong the face of it.
Interesting question. I believe it is true, maybe I said this before but not in the context of this question, that many boys who are sexually abused are abused by their dad or mom’s boyfriend. Certainly, these men may or may not be gay and may have adult heterosexual relations, fantasies, interests, etc. It’s all very confusing, like trying to figure out if a person who has sex with men is gay in a society where labels like gay is not even remotely used as it is in the West.
It seems to me, althought this rather anti-academic of me and I’m an academic, that there is little use of defining the “sexual orientation” of somebody who is so screwed up that he abuses and kills a 3 year old (boy or girl; his or not). For instance, there was the big to-do a few years back about the movie A Beautiful Mind and the real life man’s sexuality. To me, the fact that he was seriously delusional makes it impossible to place a “real” orientation on his sexual behavior when he’s pscyhotic (though likely not impossible to do so when he’s not-pyschotic). I mean the man thought he was a mouse for crying out loud and he saw samurai and martians!
So, my silly analogy here is that if somebody is doing what you described, orientation, and maybe even sex, seems to be out of the picture.
