Honorary Harlem Globetrotters

I remember reading in Mr. Smarty Pants that Nelson Mandela is one of only seven “honorary Harlem Globetrotters”.

Who are the other 6?

1999 On Jan. 8th, the Globetrotters named track and field star Jackie Joyner-Kersee an “Honorary Harlem Globetrotter” at the team’s annual tour stop at Kiel Center in St. Louis. Joyner-Kersee becomes just the sixth person ever to be bestowed the honor, joining Dr. Henry Kissinger (1976), comedian Bob Hope (1977), actress-comedian Whoopie Goldberg (1989), basketball hall of famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1989), and President Nelson Mandela of South Africa (1996).

Pope John Paul II has also recently been made an "Honorary Harlem Globetrotter"

<Futurama Geek>Poor Bender will never qualify. :frowning: I guess the Pope has that profound , inner funkiness necessary to be a true Globetrotter.</Futurama Geek>

Bosda, I’m going to hold a press conference to announce that you are a “jive sucker.”

This has been stewing for a while. I guess nobody knew.

The other six are:

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissenger
Actor Bob Hope
Actor Bill Cosby
Athlete Jackie Joyner Kersee
Actress Whoopi Goldberg
Pope John Paul II
