Hoodies

The only time I find hoodies odd are in the summer. The other day here in Little Rock I was filling my car up and the dude at the pump next to me was wearing a red hoodie with the hood covering his head with just his face exposed. If it was 50 degrees I wouldn’t have thought anything of it but was in the low 90s.

I have several zip-up hoodies of different colors and weights that I would always wear at work no matter what time of year it was. It’s a really convenient temperature regulation device when you know temps are going to be all over the place (always too cold in the office, too warm in the warehouse, blazing hot in the conference rooms - unless they were absolutely freezing - and I could wear it under my ESD smock to go into the production area if necessary).

Also, we get lots of rain here, and I prefer not to use umbrellas at all. Not a big fan of hats, either. The hooded sweatshirt is a perfect layer underneath a coat and the sweatshirt hood helps keep the coat’s hood up so it doesn’t blow off in the wind (without cinching it tight so I can’t see or hear well).

Was there a little kid in the back seat of the car screaming that they want their mommy and daddy?

Otherwise known as a “drug rug.”

I almost always wear a hoodie. When I want the world to leave me alone, I put up the hood. I walk outside a lot, and it keeps me warm in cool weather and warmer in cold weather. When I work the night shift and have to walk home in the dark, with the hood up people cannot tell if I’m a girl or a guy, so the hood makes me feel safer.

I have a t-shirt weight hoodie I wear. The hot Arkansas sun burns my fair skin. Along with sun-screen I feel safe.

A windbreaker? I’d prefer that over a hoodie which is not really lightweight. And, as mentioned, if it rains a hoodie becomes a sodden lead weight and actually makes you colder.

I thought you had to be in Georgia to be one of those. R-Kansas, Georgia, same thing, pretty much. Three seconds shy of an hour.

My '65 Ford F-250 has seat covers just like that.

School kids seem to wear them as security blankets. Field Day last Friday, and half the kids wore their hooded jackets in 78 degree humidity while running races.
When they complained about how hot they were, it was suggested they take off the jackets. The looks on their faces told me they would never consider such an idea, and who in their right mind would ever say such a thing?

I think of a hoodie a convertable car. Top up or top down, as weather will permit.

Intriguing. I’ve always settled for shorts, but a kilt might be an interesting hipster addition to the old wardrobe. The Missus would love it.
