Dear friends of my father named their son Paris…and their daughter Lisbon. Which of course got shortened to Liz, and that worked fine.
Now how mean & hard-ass d’you suppose those soldiers might be?
…Think of it as a Regiment named Sue.
Seriously, I have a co-worker with a cousin in that regiment. Every US unit that has worked with them has the same two comments:
-they can’t believe how well trained & professional the troops are.
-they can’t believe how poorly equipped & supported they are…
…story of the canadian armed, the 4th or 5th largest in the world at the end of WWII, believe it or not…
On a similar (but geekier) note, a while ago, a man named Rohan Ranger was in the news here when he was being tried for his girlfriend’s (?) murder.
Awful story, distracting name.
And he’d need to name his daughter Sofa.
Between them and the squadrons of Fairey Fireflies, the Huns never stood a chance in WWI.
The Saint Louis Blues drafted a goaltender by the name of Parris Duffus in 1990. That’s an awkward name to pronounce. I thought he was from Europe somewhere, but he was born in Denver, Colorado.
There have been some great names throughout hockey history. One of my favorites - Bruce Shoebottom.
Then there’s Pat Smear, who played guitar for Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. But he was born George Albert Ruthenburg. His current name might be an improvement.
Anyhoo…
I knew a girl in school named Penny Nichols.
Today’s San Francisco Chronicle included a photograph of a student named Patrick Rump. I wonder if he’s known as Pat.
I knew a girl named Penny Lane.
Barry Long, NHL defenseman
A friend of mine (another doper) knows a midwife called Dolores Paine, funny if you think that ‘dolores’ is ‘pain’ in Spanish.
With this name thread and the comic book threads I’ve been reading in Cafe Society it has made me wonder.
If Eve was a direct relation to Superman, would that make her Eve El?
He could move to Scotland have name a third kid BO
(colloquial - boking = vomiting)
Not, admittedly, quite as much fun as the other too, though.
Funny name, very highly respected fighting force. Most of the military men I knew when I lived in Calgary were part of the Picklies. My father actually served with them as well.
In my previous employment I encountered a chap by the name of Christian Kuntz.
