Do you think the horses in the Kentucky Derby know what they are doing and whats at stake? Do you think the horses all hate each other and want to win for themselves?
Wrong forum, good buddy.
Good racehorses know the job and want to be out in front. Do they know about the Triple Crown? No of course not. But they do know that being out in front makes everyone happy, and most horses do want to please their people.
As a rule they don’t hate each other, but they can be very competitive and dominant, and that comes out as the will to be at the front of the pack.
Don’t wild horses race to establish dominance?
Horse seem to instinctively desire to be the front runner. This evolved on the principle of “You don’t have to be faster than the sabre-toothed cat, you just have to be faster than your friend”. Despite that it still takes a skilled jockey to make a winner out of most horses.
