Hostess Gifts for Manly Men

My best friend is getting married next weekend. Her mom’s boyfriend is being kind enough to host me, the Beansprout, and Jeff for the week. I’d like to bring him a little token of my appreciation, but what sort of hostess gift is appropriate for a manly man?

I’ve known him for years, but only been at his place once. A bottle of wine is not a possibility. Flowers might well be appreciated, but I’m not sure. His place is very nice, but I don’t think he’s into “decorating.” He lives by himself, FWIW.

Any ideas?

Does he cook? If so, a George Foreman grill or nice steaks (Omaha type) for his outdoor grill might be appreciated. Another thought might be grill accessories.

Also along those lines would be (geez, I just got back from brunch, so I can’t be hungry) either a gift certificate to a restaurant or else taking him out while you are there.

More food ideas…homebaked goodies, especially ones that are packed up to freeze well, or homemade jam, etc.

Hmmmm…non-food ideas…a magazine subscription? Tickets to something? a neat tool-type thing or a gift certificate to an outdoor store or Home Depot-type place?

Manly in what way? If you aren’t sure, a nice shirt or sweat shirt is always a good idea.

A Yankee Candle that isn’t a flowery frou-frou scent. I like “Midsummer’s Night.” I’m a chick, though.

Manly in what way? He’s a prison guard! From Arkansas!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. The Omaha Steaks might be just the ticket–and they even have a store in my town.

I agree with the food. You know, I hear they make these neat Monet cupcakes now … or was that Manet?

I always think it’s neat to get something regional if you are visiting a person out-of-town. Maybe something that you can only find in this area.

Roll of Duct Tape and a can of WD-40.

(heck a guy and a girl could have a pretty good time with those)
Ok how about some movie passes?

Oh yes! The Omaha Steaks are the WAY to go!

Since you will be there for a week, you don’t have to give him the gift on the first day. If you will have time to get out and shop, you can reconnoiter his home and lifestyle, and then choose the most appropriate gift.

A dremmel tool, definately.

Give him BBQ grill toys. Men like to BBQ and junk, right?

Hostess gifts sound like a wonderful idea. I’m sure every manly man would appreciate a gallon of Twinkies and Ho Hos.
