The Penny character annoys me too, for the simple reason that women that attractive, “girly”, and non-geeky do not generally hang around with, much less put up with shit from, uber-nerds like the rest of the main characters.
and what’s wrong with Ted especially since we know he will be happily married with kids.
I have never heard that before. Not that I doubt you, but got a link? It just makes me curious as her character on How I Met Your Mother can be very mean-spirited at times and is often only sorry when she’s caught.
The Borg Queen.
The White Witch from the recent movie version of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Gozer the Gozarian (in her pre-marshmallow form)
Joan from Mad Men. A ‘man’s woman’, essentially, which I cannot stand. She’s horrible to several of the female characters in MM, but is sugary sweet to most of the men in her life (she’s pretty normal with Roger in later series MM, to be fair). She resents Peggy using traditionally ‘masculine’ methods, preferring instead to resort to manipulation using her sex appeal.
While I certainly agree that it would be a bad idea, the fact that she looks like circa 1984 Sigourney Weaver doesn’t exactly make it an easy decision. Back then, she was hot enough to sustain fusion reactions.
Sigourney Weaver was not Gozer. This is Gozer.
If you’re going to do that, show a picture of Weaver and the great gams, damn it!
The usual blather.
Oh, right, Weaver was the Gatekeeper. Yeah, I’m really not seeing it for Gozer.
The Gatekeeper is also a good candidate for this thread, though.
She’s not a prostitute, she’s a companion. A futuristic space courtesan. Men seek her out, and she gets to choose her own clients. She’s been clearly shown to both enjoy her job and believe it to be an honest worthwhile profession. Saying she’s a liar is like saying your massage therapist is a liar.
The reason she’s undateable is because she can’t handle her feelings for Mal. In that relationship, she’s the one holding things back.
Commitment issues. Also some Daddy issues. Wanderlust. She’s awesome, and hot, but not the LTR sort.
Tell us more about this.
I love the Lily episode where she turns into Dark Lily with burning red eyes and the power to make people dead to her.
Is it odd that I’ve grown slowly over the years to prefer Lily to Willow?
You prefer the one who prefers men over the one who prefers women?
“Companion” or “courtesan” is a subset of “prostitute”. There’s a world of difference between her and a streetwalking crack addict, but she’s still in the business of having sex for money.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with a Robin-Ted relationship and the Robin-Barney relationship was an even better fit. But any person who could be in a relationship with personalities as different as Ted and Barney is clearly in the “trying things out” stage of life. In other words, no second date.
So that’s when you pull you pull out “The Naked Man”, making Robin very dateable.
I would say that all of them are a subset of ‘sex worker’ rather than a subset of ‘prostitute’. But we’re arguing semantics. Even if you say she’s a ‘prostitute’… shrug So what? She’s still not the kind of sex worker who has to lie to their clients or is unsatisfied with their career. Which was the point. Sure, her not being sexually monagamous could present a problem. But ‘dishonesty’ is not one the issues caused by her career.
Eh, I’ve said my piece on the subject, and at least some folks understand what I mean. I’m probably not going to change anyone’s mind, so let’s just agree to disagree.
I think Lily is a worse choice for someone to date than Robin, and Robin has her own mittful of issues. I think Lily’s pathology lies mostly in needing to keep her manfriend’s nuts in her purse.
Except that Marshall doesn’t care, and Lily isn’t interested n dating anyone else, so what does it matter.
Lily is manipulative, while Robin has commitment issues. Robin has been in three long term relationships, despite her issues. Lily continues to manipulate the people around her.
I’ll add Abby Scuito from NCIS, though it’s conditional. She’s clearly and obviously in love with Tim McGee, but incapable not merely of admitting that her love for him is a whole different animal than her love for Gibbs, Tony, Kate, & Ziva, but cannot even discuss it with him.
