…however, the little phun-guys only use catsup on their dogs, making the top-cut easier (for me) to prepare and place, and (for them) to pick up, put down with no risk of dog-rollage.

It’s true, top split buns do make for a very stable hot dog. They have a flat bottom, and you don’t have to worry about propping your side split hot dog against another dog or the lip of the plate, to prevent its slow lop slide, and its disintegration. They are perfect for picnics.
This would seem to imply that one needs to put down ones hotdog for some reason. But how often do you have to save a busload of orphans during a picnic or a ballgame?

Well there are sometimes when you do get interrupted.
[QUOTE=MacTech]
the nice thing about the top split rolls is that they are great off a cast-iron grill/skillet, drop in a small piece of butter, and sop it up with the roll laying on it’s side, grill to perfection and do the other side, hot buttery grilled goodness.

My wife, who hails from Boston, has instructed me to relay her total agreement with this statement. Must be some effete Northeastern Liberal thing. I was then soundly berated for daring to cast doubt on the One True Bun.
I am duly chastised.

Thank you. I think it’s silly for people to put ice in scotch, but it’s none of my business if they do.

Jeebus, this thread is full of buttons to be pushed for me. One can put a single ice cube in a glass of scotch to replace the splash of water that is needed to open the bouquet, but putting several ice cubes is tatamount to putting in a splash of Sprite.
But what about this Ketchup and bologna appetizer or cocktail snack?
Baloney Parmigiana
1 pound of Mortadella cut in one inch cubes
1/2 cup flour
Two egg wash with a dash of milk
Italian Breadcrumbs with some real grated Parmesan in the mix
Toothpicks
1 cup of a very good marinara
Bread and deepfry the balogna cubes at 365F for 4 minutes, or until brown. Place a toothpick in each cube, serve with the marinara as a centerpiece dipping sauce.
Or you could do the same recipe, but use hot dog bites or baloney cubes wrapped in bacon, instead.
