top your hotdog

What do you put on your dogs?

Yeah, we’ve done this before…

I like the smokey cheese and pepper dogs right now. I put spicy pickle relish on 'em.

Tell us yours. Make fun of other’s. Free for all. Attack the topping, not the topper.

Chopped onions, mustard and dill pickle. Nothing’ else. Well, maybe celery salt.

I can go from completely plain all the way to onions or (not and) cheese. Never ketchup or mustard, or relish of any kind.

Cheap dogs get topped with canned Hormel chili (no beans), or French’s yellow mustard.
Better dogs get sauerkraut, or deli mustard, maybe some good relish.
When in Chicago - Chicago style.
When in New York - whatever the guy has on the cart.
Outside of the LA Coliseum - wrapped in bacon with onions and peppers.
Camping - brunt black outside with whatever we remembered to pack.
When acting the part of a bachelor while my wife is away - chopped up in Kraft Mac & Cheese.

I love Chicago-style hot dogs,

and jumbo all-beef dogs smothered in Cincinnati chili (no beans), Cheddar cheese, chopped onions, and French’s mustard,

Onions, mustard, relish, sport peppers.

There was a superb Hot Doggery in Salem, MA, which has sadly gone bust. They boasted a variety of toppings, of which I liked the Thai Satay.
But my lifelong favorite, condemned by hot dog purists and the Exalted Master himself, is ketchup. I make no apologies.

Nothing.

Or mayonnaise.

Or mayonnaise and onions.

Or cheese sauce, jalapeños, and pickle chips.

Or chilli, cheese, and chopped onions.

Or mayonnaise and catsup.

Or catsup and mustard.

Or catsup, mustard, and sweet pickle relish.

Or mustard and sweep pickle relish.

Or sauerkraut.

Or sriracha.

Or (thanks to Chefguy) sriracha and peanut butter.

Or sriracha and catsup.

Or… ?

I’ve never found the hot dog to be a good medium for toppings; everything just spills everywhere.

That said: mustard, chopped onions, and “hot dog chili” if it’s available, ketchup if not.

Jumbo all-beef with just ketchup and sweet relish,

The bun has to be buttered and grilled.

Depends. If I am at Coney Island Hot Dogs in Worcester, MA, I get em all the way–chili sauce, onions, and mustard. Otherwise, onions, mustard, sweet relish.

This is the correct answer.

I’ll take one Chicago dog
one with chili, cheese, raw onions and yellow mustard
and one with sauerkraut and spicy deli mustard.

Nobody eats only one hotdog. I can do three in a siting no problem

Nothing.

But I would like it on a nice steamed poppy seed bun.

Cheese, minced onion & sweet relish.

Mayo on a hotdog? That may be the first time I’ve heard of that.

I always have one plain one. Then one with just mustard (Always brown mustard. I hate yellow mustard). The third would be either Mustard and relish or mustard and sauerkraut depending on what my mood was.

Mustard, sweet relish and fresh ground pepper.

I was going to say same here, but I realized after thinking about it that I actually have had mayo on a Sonoran dog.

You can’t really top a hot dog with anything but mustard (brown). Anything else just falls off and makes a mess.

However, I did like the concept behind a Chicago hot dog when I had one.
