Funny, I never hear “Oh, he’s waaaaaay to ugly to be singing that” about LMFAO’s “I’m Sexy and I Know it” or Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy.” When men make a satirical song about ego and looks, we laugh right along. When women do (and I’ll say, this wasn’t a particularly funny song…) we try to hit them in the jugular.
When women act cocky, we apparently criticize them not for the content of what they are saying (which is, indeed, a pretty tone-deaf thing to be saying seriously) but for their attractiveness.
Man: “I’m super sexy”
Reaction: “Why the hell would you say that, you self-absorbed weirdo? Who talks about how hot they are”
It’s almost like people are personally offended when a woman claims to be more attractive than whoever has deemed them. Anyway, in reality, if either one of these two girls came up to 95% of male dopers in a bar, they would probably wonder if they had won the lottery. “Could do catalog work, but probably not runway” may be a 6 if your universe is a UCLA dorm room, but it’s an absurd standard to wave around in the world of real women- the average of which is probably 35 years old and 20 pounds overweight.
Fine thermoregulatory adjustments within the neutral zone are effected by variations in peripheral blood flow. According to this theory, the heat dissipation responses of the hot flash (sweating, peripheral vasodilation) would be triggered if Tc were elevated such that the upper threshold was crossed. Studies have shown that peripheral heating and warm ambient temperature can trigger hot flashes, implying that the upper threshold is lowered in symptomatic women. Hope this helps the hot girls out there.
I would amend that to “a majority of Americans who feel the need to look at something like this are so stupid they don’t understand it’s an act.”
Believe it or not, some of us have better things to do. While another is staring into his/her computer screen looking at Rebecca Black (who?) or the next Rebecca Black, I’ll be reading a book.
Actually, the reason no one takes Right Said Fred or LMFAO down a peg is because it’s apparent the singers themselves aren’t taking their claims seriously. If this song was being sang by Sandra Bernhard, she’d get the same reaction. The reason these girls are being judged on their looks is because some people aren’t sure if they really think “we’re hotter than you” or whatever. And since they are relatively attractive and the song is sung straight, it makes it all the more easy for comparison. I agree with whoever else said this isn’t a women’s rights issue, but a ‘put yourself out there under a certain standard’ issue.
I dunno. Sounds to me like a couple of goofy college kids messing around and then putting something on a website. Lord knows I’m no stranger to that.
Someone mentioned Rebecca Black. That’s pretty much it. There’s precedence. It’s not perverted or mind-blowing anymore. If anything, it’s boring.
If this ends up on the radio*, I’ll consider elevating it to “abomination” status. As it is, this sort of thing is what YouTube is for. Just gotta like it or lump it.
An Gadai - I’ve never responded to one of your OPs before, so first I’d like to say (and I’m sure several others will back me up on this) that I never joke around with other members. Therefore, you can be assured that I am totally honest when I ask you this: Of all the hyper-gazillions of horrible songs on YouTube, exactly what was it about this one that compelled you to start an whole thread about it? I mean, “Post your Worst Songs Ever Here”, I could see that, but… (I’m not even going to guess why CNN thought the overdramatic rantings of a bunch of nobodies was newsworthy.)
Obligatory Justin Bieber update: I finally heard one of his songs on an actual radio station…“If I Was Your Boyfriend”, something like that. It was the most generic, bland, boring song I’ve heard in ages. That, plus he’s at best a mediocre singer. He’s like a poor man’s Metro Station, if you can imagine. I don’t expect Biebermania to ever make it to the Aloha State. We do have some standards.
I think it’s meant as a joke. Could be wrong though.
By the way, I clicked on a few of the “related” videos and I thought this girl was more attractive. (Though I understand how the girls in the original video could qualify as hot.)
