Hot women writers

Anne Sexton was a model, even!

While I hate her books and wish she wouldn’t be so pouty, I think Zadie Smith is a cutie-pie.

Also, I think Carson McCullers was adorable.

Angela Carter

I have to agree with Freejooky. That photo of Carson McCullers has haunted me for years. This one, too.

I don’t know that I noticed how freaking beautful she was until after she’d had ample opportunity to seduce me, though.

Kathleen Winsor was as pretty as her famous heroine.

Not extremely famous but if I were gay or male I’d get terrifically hung up on Poppy Z. Brite.

Edna O’Brien. I went to a reading she gave at Joe’s Pub in NYC a few years ago. What a good-looking woman!

Margaret Mitchell.
Jacqueline Susann.

The poet Elizabeth Spires is a notorious looker.

Allow me to present the mother/daughter team who write under the name P. J. Tracy. They wrote Monkeewrench (good book) and Live Bait (haven’t read).

Yowza!

Kathryn Harrison is classically beautiful, and a respected writer, but kinda screwed up: She had an incestuous affair - as an adult - with her father, then wrote about it in her book The Kiss (haven’t read it, don’t really want to…)

I believe you accidentally linked to a pic of Puffi Amiyumi, jovan.

I find Dahlia Lithwick, the Supreme Court commentator for Slate, to be quite the cutie. But I’m probably biased because I love her writing.

I am currently reading Empress Orchid by Anchee Min. She was a movie star in China, handpicked by Mme Mao to star in propaganda films. Min’s book about growing up in Maoist China, Red Azelea is excellent.

Well, Paulina Porizkova once wrote a children’s book.

And of course, there’s Lisa Whelchel.

Gloria Steinem was quite attractive (an undercover Playboy bunny even) back in the day

Arundhati Roi is simply beautiful.

Brit-chick-lit author Lisa Jewell is kindafunnylookin but not bad.

The lovely Joanna Lumley (GMILF) has written two autobiographical books, so she counts.

Then there’s the “author” of the “novel” ‘Swan’. who makes up for lack of literary talent in other ways…

And another vote for JK Rowling.

Roi even made People’s 50 Most Beutiful list one year (1999? 2000?), for what it’s worth.

Amazing book. Disturbing, natch, but amazing.

When I read The Secret History, I thought that Donna Tartt was really hot. Now, she’s kind of got too much of the bohemian thing going on.

Nope. That’s a pic from the Akutagawa Prize ceremony. Risa Wataya was 19 and Hitomi Kanehara 20. Article here with another pic of the two of them.

Ayn Rand.

But only if you’re into that sort of thing.
