Hotwire.com for dummies

Usually when I go out of town, my best friend and I find a hotel at the last minute. There have been times that we almost don’t find anything, so it is probably best that we stop doing it that way.

We are going to D.C. on Friday and staying till Sunday. We haven’t booked a room and I am nervous that we won’t find one this time. Last time we stayed at a really nice one downtown. Got lucky. Before that, we stayed at a Best Western that I think was a bit out of the city. We got lucky with that, too. I called Best Western and they are booked. I’m getting too old for this last minute shit.

I am going to try to go with Hotwire.com. Can anyone explain to me exactly how it works? I mean, I have navigated the website ok, but I am a bit nervous about exactly what booking the room means.

For instance, I am confused when I read on their site that I ‘won’t know the name of their travel partner until after I book’…huh? Any help?

What is confusing about this? They don’t tell you where you are staying until after they have your money.

You’re right. I wasn’t thinking. Sorry about that. I figured it out now. I get really nervous when trying something new, and I see now that they have a list of hotels they are in partnership with, and I like the list, so I am cool now.

A mod can mercifully close this thread for me. Thanks.

As a frequent traveller and a frequent Hotwire user, I can say that 95+% of the time you will get a really nice hotel at a really, really good rate…

Have a nice vacation!!!

PS—Washington DC is one of the cities that will typically offer rooms over weekends for less than half price of what weekday rates typically run—In other words, hopefully you will be getting a 4-star hotel for a 2-star rate.

Sure. What the heck. I’m feeling merciful today
