Cuddy’s outfit hit a new low, literally, this week. Of course I understand the show’s motivation for it, but I just can’t buy the straight-up administrator dressing like this. That’s about the only thing that bugs me about the show, now that Tritter is gone.
Not to mention that if he stuck a knife blade in one side of the outlet he was only touching one conductor. So unless he picked the hot side and was grounded somehow, he shouldn’t have been shocked at all.
Most hospitals I’ve been in are concrete floors covered by some kind of vinyl flooring. Add in the fact that he always wears sneakers which probably have rubber soles, he could stick his tongue in one side of the socket and never feel anything.
Of course he could have grounded himself some other way, such as touching some other piece of equipment that was grounded, or using something else to stick in the other side of the outlet. But they were pretty careful to show him with the knife blade only, and show the scorch mark only at the outlet.
The little bit of rubber on the souls of your shoes will not stop you from being electrocuted. it showed only the blade going in to the socket and I’ve seen several cases of this and yes just by sticking a knife in one side you can die of electrocution. brushing against a wire in say a light socket wont do much but give you a small zap but touch it with a knife or fork or some other metallic object w/o any rubber, other than the little bit on your shoes, and get electrocuted, and possibly die.
When I was a kid my cousin stuck a fork in an outlet and almost died. so it does happen.
I’m not certain but I think the tongue is a 50/50 chance like if you managed to hit the wire or get saliva on it, while your tongue is still in there, you’d get electrocuted.
You people obviously don’t watch MythBusters. Thought I don think they ever did the tongue thing.
yeah, and a modern hospital would never have a Ground Fault Intercept (GFI) circuit… You would have to ‘stab’ the socket well enough to break something - simply putting the tip of the knife in one side (both sides are technically ‘hot’) isnt enough.
I dunno - she still looks professional, and she’s eager to have a baby, so I don’t think it’s outside reality that her hormones would influence her clothing choices.
Wearing a blazer over a low-cut camisole doesn’t make it professional! Next, grey flannel pasties.
Yeh a hospital would have a GFI.
Having wired several homes and a couple of businesses, and been involved in more remodeling projects than I care to remember, I know from experience that you are wrong to say that you will get a shock putting a knife in one side of an outlet, unless you are grounded in some way.
Now DO NOT go try this at home, I have no idea how you house is wired or what else you might be touching.
But I have put screwdrivers in outlets, used wire cutters to actually cut through wires that were live, and held onto bare wires with my bare hands, all making sure I wasn’t grounded anywhere (The “one hand in your pocket” rule has served me well many times).
Rubber soles on shoes certainly are enough to protect you from the voltage in an ordinary plug, and especially if you were standing on vinyl on a concrete floor.
If you touch only one side, and are not grounded in some other way, you won’t feel anything. Your cousin either got the prongs of the fork in both sides or was otherwise grounded.
I thought the whole Foreman thing was very interesting. When the treatment was successful, I began thinking that he may finally understand where House is coming from and why he does what he does. However, when he got fired, I imagined all kinds of bitterness and resentment from him. After all, House routinely pulls worse shit than Foreman did and he gets to keep his job.
At this point, seeing what Foreman’s reaction will be is the only thing keeping me watching, because so far this season is pretty crappy, IMHO.
