House 10/30

A potential hypochondriac figures in tonight’s ep. Or maybe it’s lupus…but I doubt that.

I'm going to miss Old Guy Who's Not A Doctor. I hope he comes back some time to hang out with House and Wilson. More likely, he'll show up as a patient.

Well, what can I say. Last season started off slow & got better. Maybe this show was the low point in this season, although the slapsticky preview (with no Chase at all!?) didn’t bode well.

I’ve given up. After about 10 minutes last night we shut him off for the last time. The constant whining just got to be too much. Both my wife and I were comparing him to the Cathy cartoon that runs in the local paper. If you look at all the Cathy cartoons from the last 2 or 3 years, you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. Same with House.

Okay, I’m confused. Even after I suspended my disbelief as I do every time I watch House I still do not understand why the ER was treating the people from the cafeteria for imaginary food poisoning. Why didn’t they just make an announcement or post a sign saying it was not true? I found that distractingly ridiculous.

I didn’t like this episode all that much but I did enjoy House’s victory dance o’ joy with his cane at the end.

I like the episode. I except the formula of the show as it is. Though I can’t remember any off the top of my head, this episode did have some good lines.

This may have been the shark jump. For the first time, during one of his early harangues, I thought, “This is getting tiresome.” Also agree the ER, or clinic, continuing to treat the cafeteria people was ludicrous.

Why can’t they let him grow? I’m not talking about an Emporer Constantine epiphany and conversion or anything, but can’t a person have at least some redeeming characteristic? Some amount of empathy or kindness or respect for others?

Yeah, that was just stupid. I’m also willing to suspend disbelief to a ridiculous extent, but that just made me roll my eyes. A real clinic would have had people triaging the “food poisoning” patients and sending them on their way, not having everybody wandering randomly all over.

And the patient having some magical syndrome that enables him to intuit their deepest, darkest secrets–and thus making Dr. 13 sooooo fearful of him–was ridiculous. A really weak episode, IMO.

Because he’s an atheist—and therefore hollow, embittered, amoral, and incapable of compassion or personal growth—silly.

And you’re usually so optimistic about television shows. Don’t worry, you’ll always have Heroes, Prison Break and Lost.

If you kept up with me a little better you’d know I don’t have “Prison Break” anymore.

Sorry, can you email me after each post?

I love House, but this episode had one too many outlandish scenes. Yeah, I can live with every doctor also apparently being licensed as radiation technicians and medical technologists, For me, though, it was the one where the docs were paged because the patient had “crashed” and you see them rushing to his side while he’s sprawled out in the hospital corridor. What, no one else noticed him in the middle of the floor and yelled for a nurse? How about whoever paged them? You just see a guy laying there and think, “Hmm, better page someone,” and just continue with your day?

ETA: One of the things I liked about the “old” House was the quality of the writing. To me, it’s sloppy, sloppy writing to force illogical scenes in order to propel a plot. OK for cartoons, but not drama.

I thought the same thing. I can only think there must have been more around that scene that later got re-written/edited out. It just made no sense as it was.

Fairly enjoyed the rest of the episode, though.

I missed the last of the episode. Can someone fill me in?

They need to wean out the former Ducklings altogether or add them back in full-time. Preferably the former, though I doubt it.

Giving them each 30 seconds of air time is akin to a courtesy fuck: gratuitous and meaningless.

You’ll be wanting the newsletter too, I guess?

First I agree, give Cameron and Chase more airtime or let them go. Chase is reduced to running the hospital betting pools? He must really need the money. I think Foreman’s role was really good, though, as was House not disrespecting him by trying to make him quit. “I’ll get Cuddy to fire you instead.”

Also, this episode confused the hell out of me. What was the point of Cuddy and House acting out in front of the patient at the end? Can someone explain what that had to do with whether Foreman stayed or left?

What have they done to my show, ma?

I don’t think I can watch it anymore. Last night was spectacularly bad. :frowning:

I apologize, folks. It is my fault.

Earlier this year my daughter and I watched the premiere of Reaper. She controlled the channel changer and flicked to House during the ads. As Reaper got worse, we switched to the reverse, watching House and switching over to Reaper. Last week was the first full ep of House I watched, this week the second.

Prior to this thread I was trying to reconcile what I saw with the praise I hear for this show from ostensibly intelligent folk…
