Well this is a nominating speech full of lies.
“…Biden’s open border policies blah blah blah…”
Read the room, McCarthy. They don’t want you. They aren’t going to change their minds. You’ll probably start bleeding votes from people who are tired of the Groundhog Day fiasco going on, like Buck, who said he’s done voting for you. You already gave the lunatic fringe all of the concessions they asked for. There’s nothing more you can offer. Stop embarrassing yourself.
I saw. How can someone so manifestly unbalanced rise to a position of such authority and visibility?
Am I the only person who likes mechanical pencils?
Is that why some of those kids are there? They must be bored to tears.
This whole thing has reminded me of how much I hate the pro forma, performative aspect of politics. Whenever McCarthy or Jeffries is nominated, half the chamber stands and applauds. They give speeches that they must know will not change anybody’s mind. Then there’s another ovation when McCarthy or Jeffries vote. Why do they bother? Everybody just shut up and get on with it.
We discussed it earlier in the thread. It would be a question of privilege and the election would have to be ratified by a majority
This asshole just smirkingly accused Democrats of boozing it up on the floor, and Democrats are not having it at all. She should be [edit: should have been] declared out of order.
Aguilar nominated Jeffries without grandstanding.
Yep, she’s a vile person. I take it she’s managed to kill any bipartisan actions for now.
IF the Pubs are talking plurality it can only because there is a compromise candidate that can get more votes than Jefferies but not a majority and they want to keep that candidate a secret.
Didn’t he say something about Jeffries being the leading vote-getter in the previous five votes, and a bit more? Not as long-winded as the Republicans, but a bit of grandstanding, nonetheless.
he did mention that.
The impossible dream scenario for democrats is that both mccarthy and the freedom caucus think if a plurality vote is called then the other side will have to capitulate but neither does.
Fair.
Uh-Oh.
Perry is going with Vote for Donalds because he’s Black.
Take six. I certainly didn’t see anything at all to indicate that this round will be different.
That doesn’t sound like anyone that can lead. The Speaker has to steer the ship and understand the destination.
Buck said he wouldn’t vote for McCarthy a sixth time. I was waiting to see what he do. He didn’t vote at all.
Same. Since round 6 will be the third vote today do we expect a motion to adjourn will be made as they did yesterday? Or will this continue into the evening? I don’t see much point in doing that since nothing is shifting either way.
What difference will the morning bring? They don’t want to look lazy and only work a half day.
I believe I heard they’ve already agreed to an adjournment. Basically a repeat of yesterday.
mccarthy lost this round.
at this point i don’t believe scalise could get 218.
