Scalise is almost as bad as McCarthy. He just hasn’t shown his ass as often.
I would imagine there would be efforts made to make deals, whether convincing McCarthy to drop out or lobbying members to change their positions. But just doing the same over and over doesn’t serve any purpose.
They could be doing that now.
Yet another day without Republican control of the House. It’s a small thing, but it’s there, a gift.
Can these guys even hold a debt ceiling caucus together?
CNN suggested that that was intentional. He’s close to the beginning of the alphabet, so he may not have wanted to let on what his vote is so early in the roll call. They’re thinking that he’s waiting for the call for members who don’t respond the first time, that occurs after the whole roll is called.
If it comes to that, the Democrats will cross over to support raising the ceiling even with a Republican speaker rather than let the country fall to ruin.
Jeez, they are banging their heads against the wall with this 6th ballot.
whispers in the hall is that he will vote for mccarthy.
You gotta respect these clerks for doing such high pressure but brainless work. By this point I would be like:
“Sanchez . . . Jeffries. Smith . . . McCarthy. Next page . . . is Represented Next Page in the chamber?”
It reminds me of polling a jury with a complicated, multi-question verdict. I always hated doing those.
For the present situation, I’d be tempted to say, “Anyone changing their vote from the last shit show? No? We’re done.”
i was on a deadlocked jury. the last 4 hours before the judge let us go, we didn’t even talk about the trial. it was no use.
mccarthy beyond done now.
Same as last time. On CSPAN, they said that the Dems will allow a three hour or so break for a GOP conference and resume at 8pm.
…Bueller from Illinois? Bueller from Illinois?
Adjourn only to 8pm?! What is going to change in 3.5 hrs?
Maybe the world ends
dinner and regroup? more pizza?
…more booze? ![]()
Some sort of consensus with the main faction of the GOP and the loonies or with the Dems.
on the c-span stream, you can hear someone prompting the script to the speaker (say: “is a member requesting the ayes/nays?” or “the motion has passed”). Who is doing that and why aren’t they the one running the show if they know all the expected nomenclature?
The Democrats pull the rug out from under the Republicans and nominate Liz Cheney.
