This is what happens when you start believing your own bullshit. They really believed that it was so easy to impeach a President, the Democrats did it twice just on a lark. They really believed that Joe Biden was so corrupt that the evidence would just be lying there, for all to see, no hard work needed.
And now we’re seeing the result of that: Nothing, nothing, and nada.
That doddering old demented Biden somehow is able to run the most sophisticated frauds imaginable, covering all the evidence. Lou Dobbs made that point way back in January 2021:
They’ve spent hours demonstrating the complete lack of a basis for any accusations or need for an investigation, and they are going to follow that up with a subpoena.
My assumption here is that they expect that to be denied, and then they can point at that denial and claim that the fact that they won’t allow for a subpoena is showing that they have something to hide, and that is evidence of corruption.
Note that this is what they will claim to the public, in an attempt to hurt Biden at the polls. They aren’t going to make that argument in court or use it as the basis of an attempt to impeach that will blow up in their faces. They don’t need to burn anything down, all they need is a fog machine so that they can claim there’s a fire.
I don’t think it’s going to work. They aren’t going to convince anyone who wasn’t already going to vote their way.
I get it, and she used the ploy effectively. But a lot of people will just write it off as a Democratic WOC saying “Trump bad” during what’s supposed to be an inquiry into Biden.
Bingo. Dig deep enough into anyone and you’ll find something that looks like a scandal, even if you have to squint a little.
Which is all they’re actually hoping to accomplish. I just today overheard a coworker (who, gag, lives in Wisconsin) say “Biden’s just as bad as Trump.” People who don’t follow these things closely just hear “Biden” and “impeachment inquiry” and, boom, he’s corrupt.
Agreed, but this can work against them. Anyone who is actually looking for facts will see the obvious differences. Anyone else was likely never going to vote fir Biden anyways. This is why I’m not worried about the whataboutism. Reality stands out to those seeking reality. It’s well past time to stop soft-selling this stuff over worries about how the worst people will react. Trust that the best people will figure it out, or give up on democracy.
But my fear is that there are too many swing state voters like my coworker who won’t vote for Trump but could be persuaded to not vote at all because they believe Biden is corrupt, too. They’re not “the worst people” – I have no illusions about changing MAGAts’ minds – but they’re just not motivated to dig any deeper than what they hear on the news while they’re making dinner.
The House will vote today to formalize the impeachment inquiry into President Biden, with formerly skittish swing district Republicans expected to vote in favor.
