I’m guessing this is the right forum for this. I wanted to start a thread about the local Houston election, and to ask Houston voters to please go vote Yes on Prop 1, the HERO non-discrimination act. I know there are at least some Houston residents on this board. And even for those not in Houston, HERO is newsworthy, with Clinton and others sharing their support.
If you need more info, here is an article about HERO. Most other big cities have non-discrimination laws, Houston has been without one for too long.
If you want to know more about the other things on the ballot, the League of Women Voters has a good guide. And if you want some endorsements, I like Texas Leftist’s endorsements. And if you need to see if you are registered, or find your nearest polling place, or see a sample ballot, the Vote Texas site is very useful (also for anyone else in Texas obviously). Even if you just go and leave everything blank except for Prop 1, that would be a worthy use of time.
If anyone wants to discuss the elections in general, or HERO in particular that’s welcome of course. If anyone is actually against HERO, I’m open to hearing their reasoning, although I can’t think of any good reason to be against it.
