How about that Xbox..

I believe nintendo and sony are going to have their hands ful when the XBox comes out…there are many advantages the Xbox has over nintendo and sony. For example: Nintendo’s System is has a 405 Mhz CPU and a 202.5 Graphics chip, Sony has a 294 Mhz CPU and a 147.456 Mhz Graphics chip, well Microsft has a 733 Mhz processor and a 250 Mhz Graphics chip!!! If you have any responces to this respond … don’t hold back now

It really doesn’t matter what the specs are for the systems. It’s all in the games. I’m getting a PS2 unless Squaresoft changes their mind. The other companies I see on the X-Box developers list are going to develop games for PS2 as well so it doesn’t matter. There’ll be a Metal Gear Solid X for XBox, and a Metal Gear Solid 2 for PS2. They’ll probably be the same game. Konami and Capcom are the same way. They develop games for all systems.

I’m not impressed. Plus I would really like to see Microsoft fail for once.

I hear you there. I really don’t want to see Microsoft weaseling into the video game business too. I just hope that the Xbox crashes as much as Windows does.

I just can’t wait to see Perfect Dark Cube!

Also in references to those specs (I might be pretty wrong), but aren’t they harder to compare than it seems? The core processors for the PS2 and Game Cube are specially designed for gaming and whatnot. The Pentium III is capable of handling games and the calculations they entitle but it’s hardly a processor designed specifically for gaming, is it?

SouprChckn you’re dead on with the processor thing. Man, the Xbox is going to kick the hell out of both the PS2, DC, and the Gamecube when it comes to processing those spreadsheets!

Microsoft just doesn’t understand that they aren’t a gaming company… they are a computer company… now, if they would make games for the computer, I’m sure I would probably buy them, but they are not a game system company. I mean… PS2 is making a metal gear, and all of a suddon you hear “X-Box!! get it now!! Metal Gear X” what the??? Metal gear is a pure playstation game! X-box is trying to copy PS just so they can “get good” … In my opinion… they will be out too late, cause most people are wanting a PS2 or a Cube right now…

I agree with you there… I think that it would be alot harder to compare at this point in time… its too early! they are comparing off what people are saying, not what it is…

Actually, with Intel providing the processor, NVidia is making the rest. It’s producing the north-bridge between the processor and ram and the rest of the system, and the south-bridge between the graphics and sound. They’re ultra-optimizing the system by reducing noise between the different parts, and have an ultra-specialized chip for controlling the graphics. Technologically-wise, it’s system is superior to the PS2 and at least equal to the Gamecube.

Xbox is also going to be far easier to program games for than the PS2. While the same games might be out for both systems, they will likely be out sooner on Xbox and will likely have less problems.

But…I’ll stick with my computer over any game console.

RavenousNicodemus, congrats on you first post, you might search next time as this is a frequent topic.

By the time the Xbox comes out, there is going to be a better system planned thatll kick its ass. Thus, you could always be waiting for the next system. I say buy what they have now & play!

I hate to break it to you but as far as computer gaming goes Microsoft is the King. Between the Age of Empires series, and the Flight Sim series, and who knows what else, Microsoft Games dominates there just like daddy Microsoft dominates in OS’s and Office products.

RavenousNicodemus: Yeahyeahyeah, and the Playstation has a 33 mhz chip. Just try playing Metal Gear: Solid on a 486. Or even a P100. Megahertz ain’t everything.

Nanook: Who knows what else indeed. Nobody knows what else. Between Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri and Blizzard’s Starcraft, MS gets nailed. And that’s just the strategy genre.

And furthermore, there is a rather large difference between what’s popular on computer and what’s popular on console. Sure, RTS and FPS reign supreme on the computer, but historically they never do very well on any given console. (Quake 2 N64, anyone?) Fans of those genres, typically, already have a PC and are highly unlikely to buy what is, essentially, a computer with a TV-out.

Well, in the past console and PC game crossovers ate the big ones. But as of late and for the forseeable future, I wouldn’t be so sure.

First of all, FPS and RTS were always going to better due to control scheme (controllers are nowhere near as good as keyboard mouse combo). All of a sudden, keyboards and mice are coming out for consoles. That one big problem down.

Second, FPS and RTS did better when you had something to save game data, custom maps and MODs to. Lo and behold, hard drives and real expansion capabilities on consoles. I seriously don’t think you’ll be able to get to the perfection of a computer for these yet but its definitely a start.

Third, computers used to be able to push more polygons and had better sound subsystems for superior graphics and sound. The tides are already turning as now consoles have the better graphics capability and at least comparable sound. Also, consoles today and in the future will have optical outputs, S-Video and maybe even component video. Games on those systems may be able to support high definition TV and THX/5.1 surround sound if the programmers feel like it. Plus, more people have great sound systems hooked up to their home theaters than they do to their computers. If you ask me, the computer gaming companies had better figure out something fast or they will be faced w/ some not good problems in the near future.
