How American are American cars?

Detroit. Motor City. Home to GM, Ford and Chrysler. The last of which is actually owned by a consortium of international businessmen.

Toyota. Nissan. Honda. Asian cars built right here in North America by non-unionized good ol’ boys.

So how American are car manufacturers anyway, given that they’re all privately-traded companies? What can you point to at any given car company and say “That’s what makes them American?”

The parts for “American” cars are mostly made in Mexico.

Canada too. One of our more notable politicians, Belinda Stronach, is daughter to the guy who owns Magna.
