How are tiny splinters that you can't see removed?

Where I have my office chair on the hardwood floor it has torn up the floor and now when I walk on it and rotate my foot suddenly or twist it feels like splinters go in my foot but when I look theres nothing there that I can see to pull out. How are these tiny splinters removed? The best comparison I can think of is if you have a rough piece of wood like a 2x4 and you run your hand over it quickly it gives you dozens of tiny splinters to small to see. How are these taken out?

A “splinter” has to be big enough to give a noticeable laceration on the skin (you either see or feel it pricking you.) I find it hard to imagine a microscopic splinter as wood fibers are megascopic. On the other hand, one’s foot padding is kinda thick and tough so it hides even large splinters well.

The first aid method is to clean the area well, and then use one’s skin, or clean fingernail, or a fine tool (like a needle lain on the skin) to gently scrape the area to find the lacerated part, or snag the very small splinter(s). If you find it, you can use a safe device like tweezers, or a nipper/curette to peel away the dead layer of the skin and let you remove the splinter.

Agree with Diego but if that doesn’t work, the body will push the splinters out in time. Meanwhile…wear socks.

What about the pain in the meantime? It hurts to walk on it. Oh, and I was wearing socks when it happened, I guess it was able to go through.

I’ve had good luck with painting the affected area with white glue, letting it dry, and peeling it off. Probably won’t do any harm, amd it’ll give you something to do while it heals by itself.

Ah. Not nice and I feel your pain.

The sole is usually calloused so these must have been very strong splinters to drive far enough in through socks to hurt but be invisible to the eye.

I’m sorry that I don’t have any suggestions. I had years of experience as a boy handling hay bales which inevitable held thistles. Mum would give me a needle and I’d press it flat across a finger until a tiny black dot appeared. Then I’d work gingerly at it until eventually the thistle spine would release.

Or I’d have to live with the damned thing for about three days after which a small callous would build up and eventually the spine could be picked out.

Feet are further from your eyes and more difficult to find foreign objects.

How long do you think it will take a wooden splinter on the foot to work its way out on it’s own?

Nanobot surgeons would be ideal, if you have access.

I saw on one of the medical shows where the patient fell into a cactus. The ER doc used a hair wax removal kit to pull out all of the tiny needles.
Be glad you don’t have hair on the soles of your feet, the man was really yelping.

Duct tape is worth a try.

Find one if those wart remover salycilic acid compounds. I had a large painful splinter that was visible but the skin somehow had healed over it making it impossible to remove mechanically. The salycilic acid softens the skin, then you peel of a layer splinter and all.
