I was sitting on a wooden deck when I managed to drag my foot along one of the boards and YEOUCH! I set a splinter deep in my big toe. I tried to get it out, but I can’t see it. It hurts if I apply pressure. (not an unbearable hurt)
What should I do, if anything? I’ve been applying Neosporin on it in the mornings.
Try soaking your foot in warm water a couple of times a day. If it is a wood splinter it may swell enough for you to be able to grasp it with a pair of tweezers. If there is a lot of callous, you could try filing some of that off.
If you have a friend you trust and you don’t have any circulation trouble maybe you could enlist their help in removing it.
If not successful, you may need to take a trip to the local clinic.
OK, I wait for my appointment, and 40 minutes after it is due, I get called back. I wait for another 10 before the dr comes. He looks at it and says, “I don’t see anything. What do you want to do? I can try and slice it open and see if I can find it, or you can just let it pus up and shoot out eventually”
Since I’m there, I figure go ahead, dig it out. He gets a nurse to hold a magnifying glass as he repeatedly pokes me with a needle (w/out anaesthetic. It was sharp pain but very quick)
“Nope, don’t see anything but a lot of blood”
He puts a bandaid on, sees if I qualify for a tetanus shot (yes) and has the nurse administer it.
He was going to prescribe antibiotics, but thought the better of it
“This way it will fester quicker, and when the whitehead forms and pops, out will shoot the splinter and pus”
“Oh, and another thing, if you get a red line running up your foot, come and see me immediately, that means that you have an infection that’s spreading, THEN we’ll give you the antibiotics”
I only wish that the TMI Pimple popping thread was still active
Last night, I was pushing, pinching and prodding my toe trying to figure out where that splinter was, and some stuff started oozing, and as I worked it, out came the sliver. Slightly over a cm in length.
My toe feels better but is still sore, however I am on the road to make a full recovery.
Mr.Moto, go ahead and post your joke, I found it silly, but once again am at work.
