How are you personally affected by the Corona Virus?

I am mostly hanging in there OK. This whole thing is so surreal. Two or three times since this began this month I have woke up in the morning and thought “OH that was a really weird dream —everyone has stay indoors.” and then it hits me “OH Sh**!! This is real.” And then I pull myself together and get out of bed.

A friend of mine and his wife spend winters at his boyhood home in Mississippi. They usually are back in Pennsylvania by now, but he is worried about his 90 year old mother who gets along ok during normal times, but is totally overwhelmed by the current situation.

On top of everything else he’s dealing with the craziness that is Mississippi’s governor, who still isn’t convinced this virus thing is all that bad.

YES! I have that dream, too! (I think I saw you there…)

Good grief–just came across an article about people having coronavirus dreams.

A buddy of mine is doing a home remodeling project now. He’s retired, so he could be doing it anytime, just so happens he’s doing it now. He reached a point where he needs someone to lift something heavy, while he connects something underneath. His wife (a nurse) is currently laid off but cannot lift what needs lifted, so he asked if I could come over and help, litterally for two minutes.

So, I agreed. When I arrived his wife had a card table set up in their yard. She was masked and gloved, and waved me to approach her. When I was ten feet away she signaled me to stop. She approached to within about six feet and asked me to close my eyes and hold my breath, then she fogged me with something (Lysol maybe?).

Then she asked me to approach the table where there was a mask and a pair of gloves. Once I was safe® she escorted me inside. My buddy was similarly masked and gloved. He rolled his eyes. The thing that needed lifted was very heavy, but I devised a simple lever and boom, the job was done. I began telling my buddy about Archimedes, but his wife stopped the chitchat.

His wife then herded me out of the house where she had a waste box for me to discard my mask and gloves. She fogged me again, then directed me to where she had hand sanitizer, which I used, along with a package of wipes for my car door, steering wheel, and gearshift. She told me to take the sanitizer and wipes with me, otherwise they would go in the waste box.

The whole thing was exhausting.

I work nights, and I’m a huge, antisocial homebody. For the most part, I haven’t been affected at all. The biggest thing for me is I got a nifty letter to keep in my truck to let people know that I’m essential.

The inn I always stay at when I go on vacation had managed to stay partially open through this, running what appeared to be a booming takeout service from the tavern on their property. The inn itself wasn’t operating, of course; however, the owner appeared to have kept quite a few of the staff on, doing various deep-cleaning and maintenance tasks.

I just saw a post on their Facebook page that, because of an order handed down by the governor of the state that effectively closes all hotels, motels, inns, and other forms of lodging, they are being forced to shut down the takeout service. :frowning: I’ve gotten to know a lot of the people there; I’m really concerned for them now.

Double duty. Pour it into your cupped hands and slurp it up.

Nothing to read. I get at least thirty books a month and I can’t afford to buy any. I am wondering, what happens if it goes on too long, will all sports end, how many businesses go under?

I went to get a margarita kit from the local liquor store. I was greeted by a sign that said they are closed because they are no longer considered an ‘essential service’. :frowning:

Which businesses are consider essential vary by state Johnny L.A:

SuntanLotion, there are all kinds of free books to read on the internet, for example 1.4 million books at the National Emergency Library:

Our area of Johnson County Kansas, Population 600,000. New cases are now under 20 a day from a high just a week ago of over 40 a day. LINK

So its possible with the strict quarantine started 2 weeks ago we are starting to turn the corner.

BTW, they have implemented new rules at grocery stores to limit how close people can be so only 1 shopper per shopping cart, limits to how many can be in the store, and all aisles are one way.

Does your local library offer online e-book borrowing?

Of course. But it seems strange that dedicated liquor stores are now considered ‘non-essential’, but marijuana stores are.

I was reading one story how a woman recovered from the virus and what helped her what mj edibles.

Don’t marijuana stores sell to those who have a prescription in states where that’s legal? I’d guess that would qualify them under the same exemption as pharmacies. I don’t recall any pharmacies selling marijuana and I certainly don’t recall any state allowing doctors to prescribe booze.

My guy is a commercial general contractor, his biggest clients are basically shut down. He’s had some “go looks” but the rules about contracting are not very clear to us. And he can’t find masks for his guys, so he’s home. He did attend a ROC seminar that told him that if he did take a job and it got shut down, he’d still have to pay his subs. It’s a fucking mess.
And he has COPD, and is a VA patient. He’s doing well, but all of his appointments are cancelled. I had to go to war to get him a new nasal cannula from the supplier who was overwhelmed. We did get some. I worry to distraction.
Mom is 96 and in lockdown at a memory care facility. She has advanced ALZ and there’s really no point to even Facetiming her because all she wants is us. And we can’t.
I don’t sleep well, and then I crash and end up sleeping until 9 or 10a. Shitty life, overall.

:frowning: That’s a lot to cope with. I’m so sorry.

I can only speak for Pennsylvania, where we have dispensaries that dispense medication to patients. I qualify for the state’s program so I can buy medication (marijuana) and would be having a much more stressful quarantine without it.

I stocked up on Friday, buying three grams of flower and three 500 mg cartridges of live liquid resin. The dispensary allowed one person in the building at a time. My card was scanned through glass and my products were bagged by a BudTender in mask and gloves also behind glass. All orders have to be placed online during these trying times, which is how I roll anyways. I felt safer at the dispensary than the grocery store.

Oh, and during prohibition doctors prescribed alcohol. I have a few such prescriptions framed on display.

Library closed. I don’t have enough data on my crappy phone to read. I have to restart every five minutes and only check the dope and facebook.
