Thanks for the information. Oh, and good job with that pun. Regarding the bit about Prohibition, nah, I doon’t see Prohibition happening again.
Do you have access to WiFi? That shouldn’t cost you data time, if I understand the concept correctly.
Although your library may be closed and if you can get WiFi that doesn’t crash your phone and charge against your data, you can try Project Gutenberg for free E-books.
Your library should still have online access. Book downloads are a tiny file size in the EPub format. Use the Overdrive app to access the library books.
I’m still working. Today someone was kind enough to bring me a disposable mask, so I’m wearing it. Very hot and unpleasant. I think if I wore this outdoors, I’d be dead before I could cross the parking lot. My husband bought us some cloth ones, so I sure hope that’ll be better.
On the home front, husband is all about starting new projects, so he got us ten little chicks! We have some chickens already, but never raised any littl’uns before. They sure are cute. I won’t bother to name them, but refer to them collectively as “ten-piece McNugget”.
Aww, tiny nuggets!!!
I get to pack up all my work stuff this afternoon – two monitors, a mini-tower, assorted paperwork, three binders, a couple of books – and head back into work tomorrow for three days. I’ll begin working from home again Friday. At least the drive should be pleasant, and I’ve located some heavy-duty tote bags that should be more manageable than the giant cardboard box I was given at work to haul my stuff.
You’re in Washington state?

I asked about booze-by-prescription on here, many years ago. One of the replies linked to a Boston Globe article according to which a few people, mostly older ladies, bought their liquor at a pharmacy counter to save the embarrassment of going to an ordinary liquor store. I don’t remember if they used doctor’s prescriptions or if the pharmacist simply dispensed it on their own authority. But either way the appearance of a medical transaction wad maintained.

ETA: Does Washington allow spirits tp be sold only in state stores, as Oregon does?
Stopping liquor sales is dangerous for confirmed alcoholics, unless the state is ready to provide inpatient detox for anyone who needs it, right now.

I’ve been wearing a mask, and it is a real pain. It also muffles your voice. I’m hearing impaired and when I, wearing a mask, talk with someone else, also wearing a mask, I can’t understand a fucking thing. So, if you recently told me that your grandmother just died from COVID19 and I replied, “good to hear!” don’t be offended.
Are your new chicks mixed-run or all hens? Chicks are fun. If you are doing yard work and dig up bugs/worms, be sure to offer them. Happy chicks!!
All girls. We’re hoping for eggs in the future but so far all they’ve produced is a little chick-pee.
Today I was supposed to go back on the payroll. Last night the King decreed a nationwide 24-hour lock down. So much for my salary. But in this world I have no complaints, only adventures.
Dang! You are a helluva good sport!
Where did you read this story?
I went to my local Stop and Shop at 6AM today. First time there since March 14. Shelves were still pretty empty. Zero frozen veggies and near zero canned goods. No TP and no disinfectants. They did have plenty of milk, eggs and bread, but limited variety. Produce was about 80%. (no garlic, dammit) Everyone was wearing a mask of some sort.
I felt like a prey animal. Timid like a rabbit. Dodging other shoppers and holding my breath when passing one in an aisle. But was out of a lot of things and needed to stock up. Was the risk to my life worth it? We’ll find out in two weeks.
My daughter, the RN, was shifted from the heart critical care unit to the COVID unit at her hospital. Nothing but homemade PPE available. She expects to become infected. She told my wife last night that anyone who could see the COVID unit would absolutely want to stay home. It’s scary. My eldest kid is busy sewing masks and caps to be used as PPE.
My daughter (also an RN) is worried about being shifted from Maternity to the COVID unit as well. While her county and hospital were still free of the virus Maternity became very busy, as expectant women drove a distance, seeking out “safer” hospitals. She is hoping Maternity remains busy enough to require her there.
Meanwhile, the nursing home across the road from my daughter’s hospital remains a mess. The administration iis ducking interviews, but employees are happy to talk.
At work today, we received a shipment from Donuts Delite in New York, addressed to “Lab Staff”. Nobody knew anything about it so we opened the box and it was several boxes of donuts with Dr. Fauci’s picture printed on them.
Surprisingly, no one was in a hurry to eat the mystery doughnuts, but apparently they were legit.
Grocery shopping is a colossal PITA. I’m starting to think the hoarder locusts are keeping shelves bare because they have some phobia that someone else might actually be able to lay hands on necessities. (scowl)
London, UK.
Pasta and flour are hard to get, but everything else, toilet roll, eggs, paper towels, back to near normal.
Less choice but ok.
Hand sanitizer is gone.
On a sadder note, our dear friend and neighbour Rosa has died. No one could get in to see her in the hospital, and it took her in two days. We have no idea what will happen with her funeral. No one will be able to go.
She deserved a better ending than this.
Personally, I think I’ve caught it. Major, major stomach upset the last few days, feeling haggard as hell. I haven’t left the house in 6 days. No fever so far (perhaps thanks to Tylenol) but chills up the wazoo. A nearby coworker reports the same thing the previous week, lasted five days. He’s also 20 years my junior. Crossing my fingers for the mild version of this – there’s like 6 ICU beds / 100k people in this county.
WinCo has put a limit on scarce items and ceased putting out bulk goods requiring tongs or scoops. The latter particularly vexing because they were the only easy source for Japanese-style short grain sticky rice, the one we prefer, and we’re running low.
Trader Joes has put a two item limit on everything in the store which is mildly vexing because DesertRoomie really dotes on their frozen Chicken Tika Masala and I usually buy those four at a whack.
