Funny that there are certain foods and beverages that “shouldn’t be taken” at certain times.
We were just having that discussion this morning at work, as my coworker dove into his bowl of M&Ms at 9am.
I don’t see what the problem is having sweets in the morning, breakfast for dinner, or dessert before main course.
Alcohol, however, carries a much heavier stigma.
However, if it’s not a sign of a true drinking problem, drinking a cooler because “it’s there” and you’re not expected to be somewhere straight & sober surely isn’t a crime.
Now, when you reach for the cooler because you can’t live without it…
Have fun dragongirl. Be prepared for the inevitable hangover mid-day if you don’t continue drinking. Lots of water and maybe a pre-kid nap should cure that though.
I remember being on vacation once visiting my brother. Got up, had gin and tonic, then went to Denny’s for breakfast. It was fun but a little strange to be in public in that state at 8 am.
Nope, I’m thinking I’ll try tomorrow. I had to think about it a bit, by the time that was done, it was too late. I’ll let you know when I am drunk though, if you like. My typing sucks now, I can only imagine what it’ll be like when I’m drinking.
Sparkling wines, such as champagne, or combinations such as champagne and orange juice are usually considered perfectly acceptable at breakfast (with moderation being key).
Some drink “special coffees” at breakfast, though I usually see those as a dinnertime digestif not quite appropriate at breakfast time (though others would disagree.)
While it’s nice on a relaxing Sunday morning, I would think it strange if it was a regular thing before work.
(I had a roommate in college who started his day by opening a can of Pepsi, and I thought that was truly bizarre – yuck! Pepsi at 7 a.m.)
The breakfast specials at the restaurants in my neighborhood all include a choice of beer, wine, margarita, mimosa, some other cocktail I can’t remember, or plain juice if you’re boring. It’s too much drinking, even for me. But there’s nothing wrong from taking a day off and having a drink.
And are there any rooms there for rent? How’s the job market?
Seriously, drinking in the morning is fine – and t-keela is totally right – a nice pint of something or a Bloody Mary in the morning is frequently just what the doctor ordered. That’s not your situation, though, dragongirl… Just have one of the coolers and relax. I’d definitely second the suggestion of a nice dozy mid-afternoon nap, which is one of life’s premier pleasures even when sober.
Oh, that’s heaven on Earth! I’m known to have sometimes up to 3 Pepsi’s by lunch time (when I’m working days). Perfect way to start the day, along with some cold, leftover sausage & pepperoni Pizza Hut pizza.
An ice-cold Coke poured into a big glass of ice at breakfast time, instead of coffee or hot tea? Some ex-Southerner just wrote a big piece about how he missed that, in the New York Times a few weeks back.
Shit, in the good old days, it would’ve been a frosty breakfast Julep.
I had to be up early one morning for a jazz band performance here at Purdue. Normally, I slept till past the the kickoff of the football games, so I hadn’t really seen the tailgating parties. There were hundreds of trashed people or going to be trashed people starting at nine in the morning. Every car, van, truck, or trailer had at least 1 cooler of beer, if not more. So just claim you’re a Big 10 football fan.
Lewis Grizzard used to write about having coke for breakfast, and he was a pretty southern dude. I myself have pepsi or coke at breakfast all the time…Even though breakfast is at 2300.
I used to drink in the mornings all the time. Like Spit, I work at night, so I was often to be seen walking home at 7am carrying a twelvepack of beer. An old acquaintance saw me one morning and decided I must have a drinking problem to be starting so early in the day. I don’t care how you slice it, starting after a 12 hour shift at work is NOT starting early.
OK, It is now 7:28 A.M. and I just started drinking my B&J Strawberry Daquiri wine cooler. The only other thing I really have to do today is dye my hair, my drinking won’t mess that up will it ?
I work with a Kurdish guy from Iran. He is one of those blokes that likes to have a hit of hard liquor first thing in the morning as a pick-me-up. On occasion, I do it with him when I work on Sundays at 6am. A single shot of whisky, and two strong black coffees. I feel more caffeinated than anything else. It’s quite pleasant, and there’s no desire to drink more.
