How big is your turkey?

Mine is 11 pounds, Butterball, for 4 people.

You?

My family has a 20 pounder or so for 13 people. Of course, one of them is two years old and will only eat yogurt and chicken pieces. I’m making an anti-turkey dinner after I get back home for a friend and myself involving marinated salmon, gingered broccoli and (hopefully) a Thai dessert.

I would have preferred a chicken, but got outvoted. Turkey’s great and all, but I don’t like sleeping through most of the holiday.

We made a 25 pounder last week. I still don’t know what we will be having on the holiday.

We butchered one of our own last week - around 35 pounds or so dressed weight (hen). We let them grow to gargantuan size for about two years prior to eating them because they are so good-natured. I really couldn’t even be around for the killing part of the whole thing. But, our turkeys were truly behemoths. Huge!!!

The holiday turkey is 25 pounds from the store. It’ll be simple to handle in comparison.

My wife says her turkey is 160 lbs.

Oh man, the Thanksgiving meal is something I look forward to all year. I love turkey, but I can’t afford to buy it except when the price goes down for Thanksgiving. I always make way too much and have it gone within the week. I got a 25 pound butterball for 5 people. And 20!! punds of potatoes!! Hmm, 5 pounds each. I hope it’s enough!!

We got a free one from my husband’s work. 18 pounds for 3 or 4 people. Leftovers, anyone?

It’s very big.
How big is it?
It’s so big it has its own zip code.
No, really, it’s so big I caught Big Bird trying to have sex with it.
It’s so big that I’ll probably cook it by putting it in the garage and then setting the garage on fire.

Things I am thankful for:

That I don’t have to be at Scumpup’s house on Thanksgiving Day to listen to his standup comic routine.

I bought two 12 pound turkeys. I’m gonna fry those suckers up! Fried turkey is so yuuuuuuuuummmmmmm!!! There will be 20 - 22 people at my house for Thanksgiving. We’re also having ham. Plus all the usual fixins’ suspects.

Same here but double that.

12 pounds for 2 people. We plan on using the leftovers for lunch.

20 lbs butterball for 13 people. I hate leftovers.

Isn’t that a rather personal question?

Swampbear, please give me any turkey frying tips you have as I’m doing my first that way this year. I have a proper gas fryer and will be doing it in a safe area. I’m going to costco after work and will be buying a fresh turkey today or tomorrow, under 12lb. A co-worker is bringing in a rub recipe for me.

I have a 3 pound boneless breast for 3 people…however, my daughter has stated that she intends to roast a duck, so I might just leave off the turkey roasting until winter solstice. And I will eat ham instead of duck. I am not really fond of duck.

I’m not doing Thanksgiving dinner this year, but my husband usually gets a turkey (from work) that’s around 20 pounds. I haven’t decided yet if I want to cook it on Friday or save it for Christmas.

A little over 13 pounds for fourteen people. Of course, four of them are six or under so they won’t eat as much.

We’re also having a ham, so we should have plenty of food.

Husband got a 18 pound turkey from work. Although we’re separated, I offered to cook it the Sunday after Thanksgiving and have a small dinner with 2 side dishes and one pie for dessert, for the 2 of us. His family already pre-ordered 2 turkeys for Thursday. I won’t be going there on Thursday, I was invited, but I think I’d just cry a lot.

On the following Monday, I plan on making a huge pot of home made flour/egg noodles with turkey.

I’m guessing we’re going to be sick of turkey pretty fast. After I cook the turkey, is it ok to just freeze some left overs? Will it taste ok thawed or just be kinda icky? Normally I send left overs with family members so this year I don’t know how to handle all the extra turkey.
