Releasing negative news at times it will be overlooked is still wrong, and it’s valid to complain about it. Just because it’s done a lot doesn’t mean it should be given a pass.
Perhaps, but it generally ain’t pretty if they do it on their lonesome. The economy is generally cyclical over the long run, but as Keynes famously quipped, in the long run, we are all dead. Governments can make the landing from a recession a little softer, and prime the pump to get a recovery started. It is the government’s responsibility only to the extent that we have decided, as a society, that there is only so much socioeconomic pain that we are willing to endure.
Nope. It’ll never work. It just doesn’t have the snap of “I’m all right, Jack….,” or “…pimply ass,” or even”what’s good for General Motors……” You need something short with just the smallest iota of plausibility to it.
Dollars to donuts the “New Improved Bush Economic Initiative” (NIBEI for short) relies primarily on reducing taxes for people with plenty of disposable income. If it doesn’t work it will be blamed on Sadam.
Not quite, Avalonian. I think you missed the most essential context of “fix” as in “fix the economy”. My cat can explain it to you.
