How can Donald Trump win at this point?

Is it possible that the ads are primarily intended for an audience of one? Sound’s like “guy’s full name” is hankering for an ambassadorship or a juicy federal contract.

Almost certainly. BUT I will bet that his margin will be smaller than last two elections. Texas will become a Pink state, then next big election, maybe purple. And it looks like there is a decent chance Cruz will lose.

From your lips to God’s ears.

Not impossible, but I rather doubt it.

Lots of tycoons and fatcats want trump to win for the assumed effect on regulations, SEC enforcement, and the increased opportunities for their own businesses to corrupt the relevant politicians as the whole government descends toward first Greek then Phillipines’ standards of governance, etc.

Yeah, pledging fealty to the new King might well be part of it. But the new king needs to get elected first. Which is far from a sure thing. Any/every low-taxes-is-all-I-care-about fatcat is hoping for a trump win. They’re confident they are personally powerful enough that no matter how much trump enshittifies the country, they themsleves will be better off.

So homes are building them.

In other news, our heroine VP Kamala Harris is going to be on Fox News and is apparently talking with Joe Rogan to be on his joint as well:

It’s bold, it’s confident, it’s everything that some (= RW) people said she couldn’t do: represent in the media. Answer questions, that kind of thing. Not a hard thing at all for her.

Meanwhile, Trump is melting down like a stone cold mutherfucker. Like seriously, no exaggeration, just plain ol’ call the rubber-walled ambulance kind of shit (e.g., the dance). I’m not going to link to anything, as I know you’ve already heard about it. But it’s bad.

Harris very strong. Trump mucho psycho. We’ll see how that moves hearts and minds, if any, in the weeks to come.

Lots of signs, of all sorts, around my small Central Michigan college town. Trump/Harris signs, prop and initiative signs, and down ballot candidate signs. I think I live in a very politically aware area. You wouldn’t know it from just walking around and talking to people, but they are making their opinions known in other ways.

And yes I have a Harris/Walz sign. Not an official one, it’s one I ordered from Etsy. I wanted something a little fancier and that had an American flag on it.

The Trump signs started appearing first. But fellow Democrats around here reacted quickly and I can’t say that it’s not 50/50 at this point. Trump signs become more prevalent the further you move out to rural areas. Not surprising of course.

One thing that I have noticed is that there are also gigantic Trump flags, banners etc… nothing like that for Harris. Those flags though are old looking, faded and tattered in some instances. I think a lot of them are left over from previous elections. My across the street neighbor has one of them. And it’s up 24/7 all year long.

Sounds like a handy “asshole identifier”. Good to know who to avoid.

I’ve said it before here, but every time I see someone displaying trump or trump-adjacent merch all I can think of is comedian Bill Engvall’s long-running schtick telling tales of people being idiots in various situations and his tagline response “Here’s your sign!” (to carry to warn others that you’re a fool) e.g.

Well, and it’s true. At some level of wealth you can insulate yourself pretty well. And where that level is isn’t that high. Virtually every country will let you get residency/citizenship if you bring enough money with you. And in some places even in the EU it’s less than $1 million

In my neck of the woods (just east of East Lansing, a mix of state workers, MSU staff, GM workers) I see quite a few Harris signs and a very small number of signs for the antichrist. On my cul-de-sac of 12 homes, 4 have Harris signs and 0 for the shitgibbon. In the general areas I frequent, I’d say 90% of people have no yard signs, maybe 9% have Harris signs, and 1% weirdo signs.

A twice impeached rapist convict megalomaniac with visible mental issues that are getting worse even as we speak that would turn the army on his political rivals, you mean.
Way to downplay.

Yeah, let me know when/if that actually happens to any extent.

I see someone’s been getting their information from OANN.

Yeah, loving the attempt at “bothsiderism”. It’s a mite too late to be playing that game after the recent Trump press conference that turned into a dance-off.

Hunh.

Yeah, what you’re saying about Harris is the very stuff I read in the articles and comments of National Review.

Taking what you’re saying seriously, however, I would say that Harris is just not a very well-trained political bullshitter, ready to spout off about any topic at any time. I think she’s more used to the high-precision, planned speech of a prosecutor. (Though I think she’s turned out to be a very good speaker overall.) Do I think she’s super deep on every aspect of policy? No, but no president is; that’s why they have advisors, etc. Good leaders know how to choose the right people and work well with them and exercise good judgment about the advice they receive. I think she will do that.

Re the revolution, I don’t want violence. I am thinking passive resistance on a mass scale: general strikes, massive protests, obstructing government in every way possible, etc. I could also see Blue states declaring a schism with the federal government: not secession per se, but declaring the federal government illegitimate (which it would be if Trump were to win the EC but not the popular vote, and certainly if he were to abuse his power) and refusing to cooperate with it until Trump, Vance, etc., were gone. A topic for another thread, however.

Most of this “new” poster screed is not worth engaging in except this portion.

Most of us are well prepared for Trump to call for violence when he loses. Virtually everyone accepts that Harris and the entire D side would be accepting of a loss. Upset. Horrified. But accepting. Yeah there are some joking fantasies that individuals engage in, but one side is in fact committed to the democratic process. Once upon it was both. Oh well.

But it does make me think. What would be enough to get me endorsing, not violence, but a serious campaign of massive civil disobedience, in full awareness that it might be met with violence.

I think if Trump won AND SCOTUS plus a GOP Congress somehow claimed that he could run again, that would do it. And I could see that as not completely off the table in the case of a Trump win.

I think it’s only off the table in that there is no way that Trump will last another four years, physically and mentally.

Which is why this race is really a choice between Vance and Harris, not Trump and Harris.
