Which, of course, makes the Downfall rendering that appeared in other threads all the more fitting.
The rabble are thoroughly roused. The forces of highly profitable RW / CT / racist / crazy propaganda (read “Murdoch, et al”) are not going away. The reactionary corporatists such as Koch, Kurzweil, & Musk are not going away. Neither are the Russians and Chinese who may not care exactly how the USA tears itself apart as long as they’re doing all they can to cheer it on.
Whoever becomes the new figurehead will have to have a different set of tricks than trump has shown. Vance is now demonstrating that simply saying “Holy [whatever] trump-man, you’re right!” while plunging one gauntleted fist onto the other gauntleted palm is not a crowd pleaser.
But somebody is going to hit the right mix of BS said the right way, catch the eyes of the real power brokers, and be annointed as the new White Nationalist Nazi-in-chief. Maybe not successfully for the 2024 election, but certainly in time for 2028.
Only if substantially zero Republicans are elected from non-rural districts anywhere at any level will we drive a stake through the heart of the RW spectre haunting and taunting America.
Man. Woman. Person. Camera. TV.
Weak crazy mode = weird.
Persimmon. Woman. Man. Hamper. DVD.
Hahahaha!
Basically, yeah!
Once Trump loses, I plan to start a thread about what happens next, but I’ll give a teaser as it relates directly to what you just wrote. I don’t disagree in the main with what you say here. The right wing has a lot of moneymaking and grifting balls in the air, and they will no doubt work like mutherfuckers to keep them aloft. Further, I think you correctly realize that, at this stage, they will need someone like a Trump to do that.
But I don’t know if they can. Would there have been a Third Reich without Hitler? One can argue that the forces of history were going to push Germany into becoming a reactionary, authoritarian state as they already had in Italy, but Mussolini had neither the will nor the talent to cause as much damage as Hitler, and I don’t think anyone else in Germany would have come forth at that level. (OTOH, Stalin and Mao. But different politics and countries.)
I’m of the opinion that Trump was a unique talent for beguilement and chaos and can’t be imitated. Further, the US will be burned out for a generation on a right-wing movement of that type.
Agree 100%. It’s possible some U.S. ubermensch with similar powers of persuasion and attraction is in the wings. Anything’s possible. But such figures are generational typically—or even farther between. It’s not a formula, at least not completely. It’s an accident of timing, a confluence of huge personality and a toxic political void.
Obviously just my speculation, but whatever reactionary evil 1930s Germany was headed for, only Hitler could have created the havoc that he did. Same thing here. I have no doubt there is much ratfuckery in store from the GOP, but whatever it is, it will lack the ubermensch that propelled MAGA. And that’s really important.
His descent into madness (is he obsessed with sock at all?) has a troubling aspect to it. There are some (probably few) from whom he will elicit sympathy – I will vote for him because the way he is being treating is beyond cruel.
Many of us relish the idea of him suffering. He has caused misery for millions of us and worked toward fucking up all our future in the name of short-sightedness, and we feel that he should pay dearly for that.
And though that attitude sounds like vengeance, which is never really a net positive, I think our overall goal is to make an example of him: Do not do shit like this to us! A sort of deterrence effect for anyone who hence seeks to grasp the reins of autocracy. In that respect, destroying Individual-ONE (and members of his colluding family) may seem pragmatically distasteful, but it is absolutely necessary.
OMG, so true!
I understand things look really shitty for the DJT campaign at this point but I think there are a lot of people getting out over their skis here regarding Trump losing. There is still a lot of time left and any number of things could pop up to derail Harris and cause her to tank. Especially considering Chris LaCivita of Swift Boat fame is running the Trump operation. They are already trying to smear Walz and while it doesn’t seem to be having much impact I don’t doubt these shits will stop. They will lie, cheat and steal to win this and we cannot afford to assume it is over until it is in fact over.
Yes. He can still very easily win - it’s basically a coin flip at this stage. We can’t take our eyes off the ball.
As I perceive him, Trump is a born-broken, barely sentient animal. Anything he has ever done in life, good or bad (but mostly bad), he has done on instinct and in pursuit of the crudest type of self-satisfaction. Although it is difficult to teach such a brute a lesson, I think that losing the election and having to endure further courtroom trials, even if he never goes to prison, are probably an ideal form of punishment.
Yes. The people I am truly pissed off at are his enablers, especially those who denounced him at first but later supported him out of naked self-interest (i.e., a huge percentage of the GOP). I also have a hard time working up much hate for his plebian followers, most of whom are just your standard morons who have existed across the planet throughout history.
King My Ass?
King No Dice?
King Made Ups?
Shit Magnate?
ISTR that his refrain throughout the hush money trial was that he never did anything wrong. He cannot understand why he is being punished for acting normally. In that sense, correcting his behaviour is simply not possible. The main goal of punishing him is not to make him behave better (that ship has sailed, not coming back) but to convince others to not do that.
I am just saying that I don’t think he will win unless he changes something, and he seems unlikely to change because he’s demented and crazy and worn out at this stage.
Anything they say just bounces back and hurts Trump worse. Fine, Walz misspoke a couple times about the finer details of his military record. And he shook his wife’s hand instead of dry-humping her on stage! Buh-uht Trump was an undisputed draft dodger and has an undisputedly hostie and transactional relationship with his gold-digging Eurotrash “wife.” Etc. And I haven’t seen them land a damn thing on Harris yet.
I’d put it this way: We can’t assume it’s over nor let up until election day because we need to tear every single GOP victory out of their hands up and down the ballot.
Correct. We need to go for a deterrent effect on all of these reprobates.
I don’t think the polls justify calling it a “coin flip” at this point.
They certainly do. And we have 3 months to go. Anything can happen here.
The worst thing we can do is be complacent.
