The RNC is not the only Republican campaign entity out there. The NRSC, NRCC, and probably most importantly, an ocean of industry and conservative issue SuperPACs very much give a crap about the outcome of the down ballot races. Particularly if it starts to look like he’s cooked, they will stop giving a shit what he thinks and focus solely on trying to cling to at least one chamber of Congress to have any leverage over the next two years.
She also doesn’t talk about him much, which just infuriates him. Especially when we learned from the Time magazine cover that he has the hots for her, because she looks like Melania (maybe that’s a love/hate thing actually).
I could easily see protestors egged on by agitators grabbing national headlines.
I think that’s entirely possible, if not probable. Prior to Biden stepping aside, I read a fair amount of talk about Democrats being concerned about a repeat of the protests at the 1968 DNC (also in Chicago), particularly driven by the Gaza war.
Georgia, maybe not. The Georgia GOP is not entirely in trump’s thrall. Both Raffensberger and the former Republican Lt. Governor have been all over the place the last few days bad- mouthing the board that passed the new election rules as hyper-partisan and wrong. There are, of course, some MAGAts, but you might be surprised at the independence of a lot of the Georgia GOP.
Short of actually manipulating the vote count, I’m not sure that this is a huge issue. It was sneakily tried in 2020 in both Arizona and Michigan (if memory serves), and it was snuffed out right away. When everybody knows the actual winner, it will be damn hard to officially declare that the other candidate won.
Particularly if the election is not close, which is what we’re all hoping for.

This is pretty much a guarantee and one of my greatest concerns about things that could stall momentum and enthusiasm for Harris/Walz. Check out this article from the Chicago Sun-Times about the planned protests during the DNC.
Scroll down and check the photo of the march to the Israeli consulate. That’s a large crowd.
Add to this the fact the Chicago Police are not known for patience and understanding when it comes to protesters who don’t follow direction. Particularly when their skin tone is a bit darker than snowy white.
And God forbid any groups protesting in favor of Israel come face to face with the pro-Palestinian protesters. THAT will likely turn violent very quickly.
Shitloads of manipulation, intimidation and just flat-out cheating trumps polls nine out of eight times.
Especially with a nudge.
The Chicago Police are onto the potential and have already said that they are not going to allow rioting.
Harris already shut down a protest at a rally in what can be described as maximally effective fashion. I think she’s ready.
Until a few weeks ago, Trump had good reason to think that he would legitimately win the election. It would be interesting if he neglected his efforts to manipulate the election, and is now scrambling to catch up.
I suspect protesters are more likely to block delegates from getting to the convention than to riot.
If the police outnumber the people trying to stop the convention, police can easily arrest law breakers, and then let them go the next morning without giving them the attention that comes from trials. I hope that’s the approach. If the police are greatly outnumbered by people blocking roads, there will be a problem.
There also will be a problem if there is opportunistic looting disconnected to the protests.
I hope Chicago has lots and lots of police.
I expect the protesters will be much whiter than Chicago as a whole.
But next time the Democrats might want to have it in Manhattan. More police, fewer problems.
My post said nothing about riots but keep in mind what happened in 1968 was judged a police riot. If you think CPD have evolved from there you are seriously deceived.
My expectation is violence could happen when non-lily white protesters fail to immediately listen to CPD and heads are cracked.

And the crux of the answer is who is going to be the protesters.
I don’t really know myself. Could be people of Arab descent and brown skin. Or could be mostly upper middle class college kids both sincerely wanting action some and some posturing. I’ll be less surprised by the latter than the former.
Did you look at the Sun-TImes article I linked above? Those are pro-Palestinian groups and they will mostly not be white enough for CPD.
My point as it relates to this thread was and remains that any violence at the DNC will be seized on by the trolls like LaCivita running the Trump campaign to make Harris look like a danger to the country. That’s pretty much it.
I would expect any further discussion of potential violence or rowdy protests at the DNC should be in a new thread.
Where were these guys when the RNC convention was happening? So they’re going to protest at the DNC, potentially undermining Harris-Walz, and thereby enabling the most zealous Netanyahu sidekick and and pro-Israel hawk to ever run for president. What a bunch of morons!
