Also, I won’t post the clip since you guys hate most of these videos, but Don Jr. received in his podcast a message asking him to tell his dad to stop with the personal attacks–and he agreed that that was a good idea and hinted that he had already talked to him about it.
So Trump is desperate, and everyone around him is begging him to get back on message, but the old codger just can’t help it.
Oh, and Trump held an “emergency press conference today” in which he looked disheveled, out of it, and insane.
It’s callous, heartless, and disgusting. It shows that he utterly fails to give two fucks about active military personnel, fallen soldiers, or veterans.
It’s of a piece with all the other disgusting things Trump has said about the military that were not caught on tape and that he has disputed, thus making the accusations against him even more credible.
It’s worse than other things he’s said along these lines, such as shitting on John McCain, in that the other things were cheeky, aggressive comments that could be dismissed as mere Trumpian political attacks (oh, he doesn’t really mean it against veterans in general), whereas this is Trump almost saying it as an aside, indicating that this is how he actually thinks.
It is 200% off-message for a Republican (100% off-message for any candidate).
It shows that Trump has completely lost message discipline and is completely out of control.
It’s a perfect, unambiguous, ready-made clip for Democrats to use to club this fucker into oblivion. It strikes at his own base support.
I’m just going to call it. This is a campaign-ending thing to say. It will deeply piss off other Republicans while making them cry out to Jesus in fear for their own political skins.
It won’t effect his campaign one bit, let alone end it. Too many Americans are buttfuck stupid. They will blow up their neighbors to save their country. They will mail off gift cards to supposedly pay off official government debt just like the anonymous person that calls them says to do. They will buy shit they absolutely do not want or need just because it is on sale and thus, somehow, against everything they have been taught to believe, they will somehow auctually be saving money.

Yeah, that was one of many, many times that Trump survived because his fellow Republicans didn’t have a spine.
The reason it’s different this time is that Trump is down in the polls, and Republicans have been begging him to get back on message. Their own downballot survival is at stake. It’s clear that Trump is fucking crazy, and with this statement, Trump is like a drunk at a party waving around a loaded gun.
You get one or two major people to bail, and then it will be unstoppable.
It will piss off some of his base, but the big damage will come from other Republicans ditching him. It will be similar to what happened to Biden. They are already publicly complaining about him–on the news. Even his own son is complaining openly. The dike ain’t gonna hold.

Yeah, I’m predicting that his campaign will implode. I don’t know exactly what form that will take. Some possibilities:
Trump drops out himself and is replaced on the ballot.
He is forced out and same thing.
He is rejected by other Republicans but stays on the ballot, and downballot Republicans just try to save themselves.
Trump quiet quits and same thing.
Etc.
Why am I saying this now? Trump has been saying a lot of crazy, stupid shit lately, but it has mostly been on the line of standard dickish Trumpian but in-control attacks and out-of-control, self-fucking shit. I think the NABJ interview was an example of this. Not good, definitely going to hurt him with anyone but his base, but at least maybe he is doing it on purpose.
The statement in question is completely out of control. It wasn’t even an attack on someone. It was said with no political purpose. It was just Trump opening his dumb crazy mouth and revealing exactly what he thinks about the military.
Even Trump always had a line he couldn’t cross, a step too far he couldn’t take. This is it. The implosion is officially on.
No, he doesn’t. If you don’t believe me, look up everything he has said and done since 2016 or so. Trump crossed the uncrossable line so often that it used to be a running gag on Last Week Tonight. Trump would cross that line, Oliver would yell “Hurray!!”, balloons would come down…and a few minutes later Oliver would be told that it didn’t matter after all.
We’ll see. Regardless of whether I’m right on this specific point, I think Trump has roughly two weeks in which to stabilize or the implosion will happen anyway. If he can pull himself together in the next two weeks and just be a regular, mostly on-message dick, then I think he has a chance. If not, I think he will crater in the polls and that will be that.
He attacked John McCain for getting shot down during the Vietnam War and by extension insulted every single American POW. If that didn’t sink his campaign then I’m not sure how this will.
It should have. But people could hear that and say, “Oh, he’s just being a dick to a guy he doesn’t like.” In the statement in question, he doesn’t have that level of plausible deniability.
Further, Trump made the remark about McCain at a time when he clearly was in charge of his own dickishness. Now, he is not.
It’s not as though Republicans will suddenly be more moral or vertebrate. They are getting spooked about their chances. They should have been spooked enough before and not allowed this mad clown to get the nomination. But they’re idiots. But even idiots can eventually become afraid.

The problem is, that no one leaning Trump will ever even hear about this incident. They’re all watching Fox and Fox will filter out anything that reflects poorly.
