I am the manager for a new musical act/writer, and I want to display his books at his upcoming gig at a bookstore.
The book is 15.5 x 22 x 1 cm. I was wondering where I could get a thrown-out cardboard book display, or is there anywhere I can buy them? Or could I make it myself through some easy method?
Try one of your local book stores, or some place like a Sam Goody’s. They just throw them out after a book promotion is over. You might be able to get them to give you one and cover it with wallpaper or that sticky paper they use to line cupboards.
If you can’t get one, I’d say get a large sheet of heavy cardboard (or light plywood) and some cardoabrd boxes of the size that will accomodate the book. Cut the cardboard boxes at an angle, and fasten the larger end to the big board. You could then spray paint it or cover it with paper.
At the museum in which I work, we display our books on tables. We put one copy on a small easel (the kind made for displaying small framed pictures), and set it on a small box, or something else to elevate it, and then stack the extra books in front of it. It’s a more casual-looking way, but it can be attractive, if you set the books at different angles, and use nice table decorations.
If you’re looking for something durable & portable that you can reuse many many times, you may want to check out library vendors like Demco, Gaylord, and The Library Store.
They’ll have many different options in various prices, sizes & levels of durability.
You may also want to check with companies that do supplies for trade shows (I don’t have a personal recommendation to give for any). They’ll also sell lots of different display products.
If you don’t need something durable, in addition to Lissa’s suggestions, try supermarkets. Their vendors often set up cardboard end cap & wing displays of different food products they’re pushing.
