How can I drive the Nurburgring?

ntucker, there’s nothing listed for your location, but 175 Euros works out (at today’s exchange rate) to U.S. $235 and change. If you go with friends, you can split the cost. I think it seats three or four.

I had lunch at the inn owned by the family of the woman who drives the 'ring taxi. Lots of great old pictures of the track.

I’m in the US, but I didn’t mean to translate it into dollars, I meant to translate it into english. Thanks.

Whoops, sorry. Responding on someone else’s computer.

Let’s clarify this. The course that’s used for Formula 1 is not the Ring. It has a name that sound familiar. But it’s an insult to suggest there’s any other comparison.

Regarding the Ring Taxi - I believe it’s the same woman who acted as mentor on the BBC’s Top Gear recently, with the challenge for one of the presenters (Mr Wanker-Clarkson himself) to get around in under 10 minutes in a diesel. He did it after two days of trying, and she wiped 10% off his time in her first run in the car.

That’s not entirely fair, GM. The circuit where they run the Formula 1 race now is built over part of the old course, and the front strait is still in the same place. And that track looks like it can still be combined with the Nordschleife. (And for the races they still hold on the old course, I think it has to be, since the Nordschleife has no pit facilities that I could find.) A lot of the old photos show a tunnel under the front straitaway, with a curving ramp to get into the narrow infield. That tunnel is still there, I found it while looking around. (I did say the place was practically deserted.)

It’s not the same old 'ring, but I just don’t see how they could have kept using it the way it was. I’m from the U.S.; the fact that they built this thing in the first place, have kept it up, use it when they can, and open it to the public is enough for me. For now.
