How can I get an “invite”* for Google Voice? I requested one at the website, but they’re not sending them out right now, and I have no idea how long they will. Do any people here have a spare to bestow?
I’m assuming that Google Voice is what I want. I need a dummy phone number that will forward to my home phone or cell phone. Even is that it seems to be able to go to a different voicemail than my home answering machine or my regular cell phone voicemail if I can’t answer the phone.
*And when did “invite” become a noun, anyways? I protest. I can barely make my fingers type it. Was *invitation *too long to write? I’m assuming it came from Evite, which has a lot to answer for.
I can send you one. I’ve had it for awhile, and didn’t realize at the time I could put my actual phone number (my cell) into the service, and it works great! Let me know!
Be aware that there may not be any local numbers available for where you live, if that matters. I had to choose a number with a different area code, which isn’t that big a deal in this age of dialing by contacts … but just FYI.
Sounds like invites aplenty.
I have had Google Voice for about 5 months (?) or so and like it a lot.
I give the number mostly to people I never really want to speak with, but they can call and leave a message and what is really cool - that message shows up in text in my Gmail and I can read it when I go through my email in the morning and during the day.
I actually give this number to my students, telling them they can call 24/7, and it works great - now I know they are running late, or have a question about an assignment, etc.
Also good to give out to businesses that ask for a phone number - no need to worry about annoying calls during the day.
