Several years ago, some friends of friends brought Sainsbury’s Red Label tea when they came to visit from England. Sadly, I’ve since lost touch with these people. What’s worse, though, is that I have never been able to let go of the memory of the tea. I try to tell myself that it can’t be as good as I remember, but it’s no use. I must have this tea.
Alas, Sainsbury’s does not distribute to the US. (I contacted the company.) I need advice, then. How can I get some of this tea? Or, barring that, does anyone know of an available tea that tastes the same? I certainly haven’t found one.
As a little side rant, why can’t our tea taste this good? It’s weak and one-dimensional, while tea from over the pond is unbelievably good. For those of you who can’t understand why many Britons enjoy tea so much: it’s because they have the most wonderful tea ever. If we had tea like this in America, we would all be dedicated tea drinkers. But we don’t. We have bilge. Bah!
I’ve never tried Sainsbury’s Red Label tea, tho’ I shop there every week. Drop me an email and I’ll be pleased to send some over to you (a little Christmas pressie from a fellow Doper ).
My common room is bursting at the seams with the stuff. We seem to get through so much of it that the sixth form has a collective Nectar card to use when buying Red Label tea.
I’m sorry, this is not helpful. If I could, I would bung some in the post for you.
I didn’t mean that Red Label is the best tea ever. What I meant was that England–and probably the whole UK–has the best tea ever, in my (admittedly somewhat limited) experience.
Red Label is, however, the best tea I have ever tasted. You’re right; I’ve never had Yorkshire Tea. It does somewhat sadden me that there is a tea that is “vastly superior” to the best tea I have ever had. I suspect you’re right, though, because the people who brought it over to us were amused by how much we loved it. “It’s just regular tea.”
[sneaking suspicion]
Hey … are you UKers hogging all the good tea on purpose?
