How can we have faith?

If this interview is indicative of the “brains” that are running our country, how can we have any faith in their ability to forge an economic stimulus or bailout package that will do anything but doom us.

And from the title, I thought this would be a religious discussion. As for the video… I’m not sure what to make of it.

I wanted Hillary to replace Reid, but she’s in the executive now.

Can we have Kirsten Gillibrand be majority leader? She’s clearly not senile.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

At this point, I’m more impressed when a politician says something which is not moronic.

And let’s not forget Nancy Pelosi arguing that condoms are good economic stimulus.

The truth seems to be that the Congressmen/women don’t mostly know what’s in the stimulus package except the pork they personally asked for, and seem to think that since it’s a stimulus package, it doesn’t matter how the money gets spent, or what it gets spent on. They have fallen into the trap, so common among political leaders, of thinking that money = wealth. Or they’re just taking the opportunity to pay back their political debts.

I am finally able to be pleased that the Republicans are taking a stand against this nonsense. They finally found their testicles again.

smiling bandit, the GOP would be more convincing if they had any constructive ideas that weren’t their usual talking points. Tax cuts will not inflate the economy as much as borrowing & spending.

That said, I’m not convinced we need even more public debt in this country.

How can we have faith? Obviously, we can’t.

Oh, boy. Reid is trying, unsuccessfully, to relay the IRS factoid that income tax is paid voluntarily. What that actually means is that most people (a huge majority of taxpayers) fill out their returns and pay their taxes without any action by the IRS – they don’t send out bills or collectors, in other words. It’s as voluntary as stopping at a red light – most citizens comply with both laws without overt coercion.

We elected them.

Oh for Christ’s sake…

I thought I didn’t have faith in the people running the country before, but I guess I did have some faith as I just feel that little glimmer of hope get snuffed as I listed to Reid talk.

I think if we had a formalized system where we took the politicians that say such stupid shit, out behind a shed and beat them with a rubber hose until they stopped talking, we would be much better off as a country.

You don’t go to jail for failure to pay taxes?

This changes everything! Henry David Thoreau didn’t go to jail and didn’t write “Civil Disobedience.” Gandhi wasn’t inspired by Thoreau’s message and didn’t take up the cause of non-violent civil disobedience. India is still ruled by the British. Dr. King was not inspired by Gandhi’s success in freeing his people and did not lead the Civil Rights Movement until his death in 1968. We took our eyes off the prize, we did not overcome, and many of our fellow citizens remain fettered.

Thurman Helms Jetton, IV (D. Louisiana) was recently sworn in as President of the United States.

Take another look at Nancy Pelosi’s idea and it is not so absurd. Less babies born to people on welfare would mean less tax dollars to support other people who are not being responsible and their off spring. Condoms also help to stop some sexually transmitted deceases so that would also help on the heatlh costs.

Republicans lost their testicles when they started using the fundamentalists for a base and try to force their beliefs(by laws) on others. They forgot we are a democracy, not a Theocracy.

Which is still a monumentally stupid argument. You can’t arbitrarily throw money at something and get something worthwhile out, and certainly just because you want to find an excuse. If you’d like to ignore reality and pretend she’s not a moron, however, that’s easy. Aside from which, cheap pregnancy prevention is hardly unavailable, and is largely effective on middle-class, not the urban poor.

Ah yes, the usual leftist lie born of ignorance… and fear. People who don’t understand politics, or the Religious Right, shouldn’t yak about either.

Pelosi isn’t asking to arbtrarily to throw money at something, she is suggesting that Birth control should be available to all women of child bearing years; it costs less for a condom or a pill than supporting children who live in poverty and are not wanted or the parents can’t afford them. Many of these same children become gang members or try to make a living selling drugs. The urban poor cannot afford Birth Control . But if it were made available many would take advantage of it, unless they believed it was a sin,but having children you can’t afford isn’t!

I am glad to hear that you are the supreme authority on politics and the religious right.

I thought, well, maybe it’s a fake interview, where they swap in different questions out of context.

Nope, Reid seems to genuinely not understand what the man is saying.

I think that’s giving him far too much the benefit of the doubt.

Rather, I think he understands perfectly what is being asked but is trying his damnedest to use his political double speak to not answer the question.

In a way, I blame many years of the media letting them get by with this horse poop without demanding an answer to the question

Oh My God. Harry Reid was right. Taxes are voluntary. Well, at least if you are running the country. #3 of Obama’s nominees hasn’t paid taxes. I wonder how an audit of all our leadership’s tax records would turn out.
