How can we save ourselves from the coming onslaught of Christian concentration camps?

I beleive that the revenge part is (which is a conscience choice) that belongs to God, not anger part(which is a emotion).

“vengance is Mine sayath the Lord” comes to mind

Classes come and go, but the 2nd grade is always the 2nd grade.

or, to quote Rip Torn in Defending your Life

“Once you use more than 5% of your brain, you don’t want to live on earth anymore.”

You and Qagdop are confusing a noisy minority with something large enough to actually makes a difference, IOW you’re giving this cult more credit than it warrants. Especially in light of the recent outing en masse of the ID school board in PA, I’d be interested in any cites that show “there is growing public support for enacting Old Testament Law, with its concomitant death sentences for adultery, homosexuality, and idolatry, as the law of the land.” There’s a small group of loudmouth idiots. That’s it. You might as well hold Fred Phelps up as an example that “American society clearly disapproves of homosexuality in the strongest terms and believes that gay people should be persecuted and killed”.

I’ve scanned the links, but time limits right now. It’s not hard to find a small number of nut-jobs to support any cause. For example, there are people out there that actually believe LBJ or GWB to be great presidents. A few idiots do not constitute “growing public support”.

Maybe there are more of these jerks than I suspect, but ending my days in a christian concentration camp isn’t something I’m losing sleep over.
Gotta’ run, so, later.

“Judge not lest you be judged.”

Anger = judgement.

I hate to hijack this thread (and if others think I am, let me know and I’ll go start another thread), but I disagree. You can judge someone without it coming from anger.

Not really a good equivalent. Judgment does not necessarily entail anger. However,

“But now ye also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice…” (Colossians 3:8)

Sorry for the hijack, but…

DtC, can you explain how you came to be so knowledgeable in the scriptures? If you have explained this before could you just throw me a link? Or maybe an email if this isn’t the right forum for this question. I have often wondered if you have formal training or simply did your own research on the metter. I don’t doubt your interpretations of the scriptures, it’s just that in anything other than a religious dicussion you do not strike me as someone who would be interested in religion.

Well, since nobody else has picked up this one:

What numbering system, exactly, are you using which leads you to believe that “any number” of the above quotes supports your claim?

You’re not supposed to judge someone at all. I was saying that anger (in the context I thought that kanicbird was using it) is an expression of judgement.

Ugh, weird and icky. I am a believer but I would never try to force my belief by law on someone else. What? they don’t trust God to do what he says he’ll do?

Thanks for the links Qadgop the Mercotan, that is a loon-subset that I had not yet heard of.

I will be more aware with my fellow Christians and if I hear any of this nonsense I will not be silent, I will speak up and try to help them understand that this is foolish.

So, can I be in the underground resistance?

I agree with that, I just disagree that anger is the source of all judgment.

Do you remember the rest of the verse?

I’ve been asked this a lot so I apologize for boring everyone again. My Biblical knowledge, such as it is, has been acquired through a combination of formal training (BA in Religion and Classical Languages) as well as years of independent study. My interest is not “religious,” as such, but historical and empirical. I am fascinated both by the Bible as a respository of ancient religious literature and by Middle eastern history. I am a Bible crit geek the way some other people are Civil War geeks or Tolkien geeks.

It doesn’t matter. It’s more fun for him to imply Christians are hypocrites by spouting off his own interpretation of Christianity, even though he isn’t a believer. Christians most certainly can judge, in the general sense. There are certain kinds of judgement (good person vs. evil person) that are best left to God, but there are other kinds of judgement that are necessary (e.g., criminal vs. non-criminal).

I’m torn.

I want very badly to be in the Resistance, but I kinda want to be the dispassionate nurse with the eyedrops as well…
Choices, choices!

Do I think the scenario is likely? no. But I do think that there are any number of people who would support such a government --and yes, those people tend to be conservative Christians. We are fortunate that as bad as it’s gotten, they haven’t been able to make their agenda acceptable to mainstream America, yet. Maybe they never will–that’s what I hope.

That is the entire verse (Matthew 7:1).

Actually, that is the verse: Matthew 7:1.

The rest of the pericopé, or small snatch of Jesus’s teaching, which is what you obviously meant, is Matthew 7:2.

Scariest verse in Scripture, in my opinion. Because I can get angry, and hostile, and upset about things.

As you imply, it’s not in full a command not to judge, but (implicitly) one to judge with the mercy and compassion that you would like extended to you. A kind of corollary to the Golden Rule (which comes ten verses later in the same teaching) specifically directed at humans’ tendency to judge.

So tempting as it is for me to imagine a “reprogramming center” for Garry North, the Rushloonies, and the rest of the C.R., I need to treat them as I myself would be treated.

“Pay attention. There’ll be a test on this later.”

There IS no rest of the verse and how did I imply that Christians are hypocrites? I was actually supporting the views of at least two other Christians in this thread.

We were only talking about the “moral” sense.

Okay then, let’s introduce the verse that comes after it as well.

I interpret that as saying that you are free to judge others as much as you want, but that God will use the same measuring stick when He judges you. If you are fair and lenient, then so will He be fair and lenient.
