How can you limit access to a web site

My exwife called me last night and was wondering if there was a way that you could set up Opera (or Explorer) to limit how much time someone could spend on a web site. I know you can block sites–but I am hoping to just set limits on a site. Of course if my GF finds out about this–she might figure out how to limit my time here on the Straight Dope!

Evidently my daughter has become quite fond of this web site where you have computer animals and you have to interact with them, etc. My 10 year old daughter has shown me the site and she enjoys it and I don’t want to block her from the site entirely. But would like to find a way that you can set a timer or something that limits her time on that site.

I suggested to my ex that she set a timer, etc. And that will work to some extent–but I think if there is a add on program that you set one hour into a timer, and then five minutes before your time is up it notifies you then when the hour is up—poof! Perfect situation. No arguing, no ‘just one more minute’ etc.

so tell me–anyone know of any add on program out there like this?
thanks

Net Nanny seems to be one of the more popular apps for controlling access - you can limit by time, address, key words, etc.

Do you mean client side? Why must you do this on your own system? I could easily set this up server side by IP. Theoretically this can be done client side, but this seems silly to me.

Well, the OP doesn’t have access to the server if I read it correctly, therefore can’t set it up server side. It’s not his website.

Yeah…what chrisk said. I am guessing it’s the NeoPets.

bingo! NeoPets it is.
good guess
I will look into this Netnanny might do this.

And yes this is client side–if you mean ‘my’ side.
