How close is a hotel to your house?

I live right against the freeway which is the only place zoned for hotels in my suburb. The closest one is 1800 ft but it’s literally condemned so hopefully will be gone soon. There’s a Knight’s Inn across the street from that but you don’t want to stay there. The LaQuinta used to be better but it’s still livable. I don’t know what goes on at the Country Inn, I’ve not heard anything either way.

Good news they’re building a new Holiday Inn Express .45 miles away, walkable to my house. You can stay there around Thanksgiving if you want.

At first I didn’t see the decimal point, and was wondering whether you were actually insane.

Nope; she just really doesn’t like T-day guests.

Insanely fit, that’s me! :flexed_biceps:

(Happy birthday!)

We’re close enough to historical tourist attractions and a whole load of high tech headquarter places that there are at least five ‘nice-ish’ hotels within five miles, plus a zillion B&B spots. In addition there’s a horrible place maybe a mile away, but it’s only nominally a hotel these days: 100% of its rooms are used for “emergency” accommodations for welfare families in various types of crises. The stories you hear,…

There’s a Holiday Inn Express 2.7 miles (3000 ft as the crow flies) from us, a Fairfield by Marriott 1.9 miles, or you could probably rent the AirBnB catty corner across the street from us, but it will most likely be expensive (last week’s renters were a motorcycle group [high class bikes] here for bike week at Daytona).

Well I live in Manhattan so… there are more than I can count within a half-mile radius.

Looking on the map the closest appears to be two blocks north. It’s a pretty upscale one, and prices look to vary wildly. One random day it’s over $1000 per night then the following day drops to $250 per night.

I’m a mile from the airport here (Cleve.) so you have about half a dozen options, even if the Sheraton closed a couple of years ago.

There’s a B&B three blocks away, which looks nice, although very Jesus-y, and is reasonably priced ($160-$295 a night, depending on the type of room). Other than that, there’s a Red Roof Inn and another motel about a mile away (both fairly rundown, and I’m not sure they would meet the “non-creepy” criterion) and a cluster of other chain hotels (LaQuinta, Days Inn, etc.) about 1.5 miles out, then a fancier cluster (Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn & Suites) at around the 2.1 mile mark.

Hilton Garden Inn, Raleigh NC, 2 miles

It’s adjacent to the Triangle Town Center. I went there recently to find a dirty birthday card at Spencer’s, but they don’t sell those anymore. I got some lunch at the food court, noticing how run down the mall looked since last time I visited. About a third of the stores were closed, and some of the individual buildings outside the mall looked like they had been deserted for decades.

When I got home, I saw an article on my news feed that addressed this issue, saying that YouTubers had been chronicling the slow decay of TTC, and Yelp reviewers had been hollering how the creek dried up. Developers built apartments and duplexes nearby to house customers and employees, but they didn’t attract much interest. The place has some kind of curse I guess, since many of the other malls in the city are doing fine.

I guess that article showed up because I had bought something and almighty Google connected the dots.

I remember when that opened. It was supposed to be The Shit. IIRC, They tried lure the JC Penny’s away from North Hills.

I live in a college town so there is the entire range of hotel options within a 1-3 mile radius. The priciest are the boutique hotels downtown with fancy bars and restaurants incorporated (1.5 miles from me) then the midrange chains near the shopping centers (2 mi) and finally the Motel 6 style chains and low-end independents off the freeway exits (3 mi). Mind you, during graduation or move in week, you aren’t going to find any place for less than $200.

Closest is the Flamingo Motel about 1.5 miles away. I walk past it on the way to Recycle Bookstore quite often. The Flamingo isn’t someplace I’d recommend, so I’d direct you to the Campbell Inn (2.7mi) instead.

1 mile from our house, a major chain. We’ve stayed there once when work was being done on our house.

2 miles to the closest one; goes up to ½ dozen in as many miles.

Is that hinting at an invite for T-Day dinner??? :face_savoring_food:

About 3 miles left or right. There are several at one end of town and more are being added (all are major brands). It’s perplexing because I don’t see our town as a big tourism or business traveler draw, but I am probably missing something.

Some people are extremely allergic to, or terrified of, some other people’s pets. Some people might not want to share a bathroom with the household’s six children and a cat pan. I can think of lots of reasons. Of course, if you really live a hundred miles from the nearest hotel or b&b, maybe the guests have to either manage or bring an RV to stay in.

My guests sometimes stay in the house, sometimes in a B&B (several within about 5 miles by road), sometimes in an actual hotel (one about five miles, a number of choices within 12 or 15), and last summer one set parked their RV in my fields.

Well jeez, shouldn’t you have waited for an invitation?

There’s a Hampton Inn about 5 miles away. Or we can put you up in the garage apartment, if you don’t mind the lack of running water or electricity for the kitchen appliances. I’ll remove the mousetraps and their deceased occupants prior to your arrival. The concrete steps leading up to the apartment door are leaning at a 30-degree angle, but you should be fine if you hold tightly onto the handrail.

There is a brand new La Quinta/Wyndham Inn 3.7 miles from my house. Anything else within 5 miles is junk.

The closest one I’d actually recommend to a guest is 5 miles away from my house.
