Possibly, but it worked for us. The cultural center I work with voluntarily started doing background checks because we have lots of children’s programming. To our surprise, one artist turned out to be on the sex offender list! (Reading the case, it probably wasn’t fair - it seems to have been a Romeo and Juliet situation where he was 19 and she was 17, rather than actual pedophilia.)

We decided to continue with plans for his art exhibition but not to allow him unsupervised on our premises, period, and to bar him from contact on our premises with children, supervised or not. I think this gave us a pretty good guarantee that our institution would not unwittingly contribute to any sex offenses.

When I was baby sitting I may have gotten $10. For a couple hours listening for a sleeping kid while parents went to a movie.

Never did it too much.

Everyday childcare is not cheap. (You can get vouchers from state agencies in some places if you qualify.)
It takes substantial funds out a paycheck if you have two kids. Some parents quit working because of it. May as well stay home with your kids if the whole check goes to childcare.

Age of consent is different in every country. In USA it varies from 16 to 18 depending on the state and Canada it’s 16 as long as the person is not in position of power.

Oh yeah, but it is not a cash business. My Ex had Day care, but subsidized, when she mentioned how much two hours after school would be if she had to pay full price I was goggled. She also worked withe the IRS with my Bro, but a grade lower, and it would have been a large portion of her take home- for just 2-3 hours, five days a week.

IIRC in some states there is also a difference in age limitation if under 18 so a 60 year old cannot have sex with a 16 year old even with legal consent.

No, the illegals that are working in construction are doing the unskilled part of it – they are the plumber’s helper hauling the pipes to the plumber, the masonry helper hauling the bricks or concrete blocks to where the mason is working, the roofer’s helper hauling the bundles of shingles up to the roof for the skilled roofer, etc.
