How come conservatives are against abortion?

The word Pro-abortion is a misnomer. Pro-choice is for the life of the already born, and are pro-birth control. Most truly pro- life people are not pro-abortion but pro the rights of the already born, and that is for Mother and the children she already born and the ones she wants. She considers the choice to give a child the love, care, etc. she can give them.

Please tell me what “statements” the “pro-abortion” (I]sic* side have made that they can’t back up?

OTOH, here are some words of wisdom I’ve heard from the anti-abortion crew:

Every woman regrets an abortion. No woman regrets an adoption.

Once a woman gets pregnant, the uterus is the child’s (even if it’s a boy–the only time a male has a uterus).

Gay parenting is child abuse.

There is no such thing as gay marriage. Marriage is an act of love, and gays only have lust.

Marriage is for monogamy, and gays can’t be monogamous. So they can’t get married.

If a lesbian gets pregnant by rape, she should be forced to have the child and give it to a real family.

Pro-life people do not have abortions.

There are millions of people wanting to adopt (odd that there are so many children in foster care waiting to be adopted).

Please see post #694.

Lo, I have seen it. I wasn’t paying attention during that part of the discussion, but I think it’s a reference to laws like these:

No, that isn’t anything like what she claimed. Unsurprisingly.

How ya figure?

How’s about making it explicit exactly what part(s) of another poster’s statement you’re asking for a cite for, instead of just dragging out an exchange with a series of snippy little hints?

I’ve read the book Intern by Doctor X, which was written prior to Roe v. Wade. He writes of a doctor desperately searching for some fetal tissue in a woman who came to the emergency room claiming a “miscarriage.” If he didn’t find any, the hospital had to be notified, and they in turn had to call the cops.

Choices by Dan Sloan tells the tales of an emergency room physician who saw the effects of back alley abortions. He decided to become a doctor doing illegal abortions after seeing what women will do to end an unwanted pregnancy.

Shodan if abortion is again made illegal (fat chance!) and it’s proved a woman did have one, what should be done? The death penalty? Life in prison? Suddenly making abortion illegal (fat chance) will not stop women from having them.

By reading for comprehension.

I quoted the part needing citation in my first request, which was (and is still being) ignored. Again, reading for comprehension would help.

Shodan

Then why didn’t you reference your first request when asked for clarification on your second request? Sheeeeeeesh, Shodan, your “series of snippy little hints” posting style can seriously impede efficient communication.

Getting warmer . . .

Actually it appears to be due more to people posting to a thread without paying attention to what is posted. As you did.

Shodan

Bull. Annie-Xmas herself had to ask you for clarification of your second request in order to know what you were talking about, and she was the poster you were originally responding to in your first request.

Face it, Shodan, you can’t expect people to navigate an 18-page thread without giving them specific references to guide them as to what you’re talking about. You, on the contrary, seem positively to enjoy communicating only in a series of snippy little hints because when other posters are confused by them, that gives you opportunities to post more snippy little hints sneering at their confusion.

Perhaps she could respond to the request in which I quoted the part needing citation. Or perhaps you could pay attention to a thread before complaining that you don’t understand it.

Regards,
Shodan

Speaking of paying attention, Shodan, Annie-Xmas has in fact recently responded to you.

Don’t sweat it dude, happens to me all the time. We’ve been arguing all day and I realize I’m pissed off but can’t remember why. Then makeup sex.

A number of those statements (the ones about gays) have nothing to do with abortion per se, they’re statements of cultural conservatism which overlaps somewhat, not fully, with hostility to abortion. Not everyone who opposes abortion rights is a cultural conservative, and not every cultural conservative agrees with what you cite about gay rights.

I’m sure I can pull scientifically illiterate remarks from individual cultural liberals, defined broadly, but I don’t really see the point.

Banning abortion wouldn’t get rid of all of them, no one thinks it would, but it would reduce the incidence.

I don’t know what the penalty for women who get abortions would be, but I think this is a case where the law should generally temper justice with mercy, and I don’t support the death penalty for anything except treason and related crimes.

Please do.

The statements about gays show that, while the anti-abortion crowd screams ADOPTION, ADOPTION, ADOPTION like it’s some magical la-la land where nothing ever goes wrong, in truth they only favor adoption to the “right” people.

I’d love to see every woman considering abortion to have the baby and let a gay couple adopt it. That would certainly make some anti-abortion people’s heads explode.

Grin! That’s a good’n and I will be quoting that for the next couple days!

(For sake of clarity, I’m completely on your side here.)

It’s funny that you don’t really see the good in having the babies NOT aborted. No, the glee is reserved to hoping to “make some anti-abortion people’s heads explode”.

For the record, I will be happy to see every woman considering abortion to have the baby and let anyone at all adopt it. Gay couples included. I think you would be very hard-pressed to find more than a handful anti-abortion people who would not share my sentiment.
