Oh no, Upham. Threads can be MUCH longer than 6 pages.
As a willing participant in the epic that is “Guy Stuff,” I know this for a fact. It’s in the archives, if you’d care to read it. Heh.

Look up some old JDT threads. You’ll see that when they near 10 pages, the mods tell everyone to wrap it up because the software has trouble handling more than 10 pages.
I’m absolutely sure a couple went to 12 pages.
Not an easy way to find them though.
This looks like a thread crying out for its true home in ATMB.

While there is theoretically no limit to the number of pages a thread can hold, for our server and other circumstances threads with more than 10 pages (that’s 500 posts) tend to load slowly or not at all. That’s annoying as hell, especially if it’s a popular subject. So we lock the thread just before it gets to that slow place and if the thread needs to continue, look for part 2.
Now, that’s an approximation; if the thread has many lengthy posts in it, it might get closed earlier; if it’s a lot of little posts, it might run a tad longer. And it also depends on when we catch it, too.

Tuba, wasn’t there also a small math error that good ol’ JDavis fixed for us, that ‘lost’ pages after 11? I know that happened to my boy, VVC.
Guy Stuff is 23 pages of fun, and even IT works fine, after the math correction.

I should also remind everyone that the vB software is still quite new and has some bugs in it. The math error was just one of them.
We’re also putting this software through some punishment, no doubt about it, we’re one of the bigger boards to use vB. That might also be a factor in how pages resolve.
